  • What Happen To Ocala Speedway Enduro

What happen to Ocala Speedway enduro that they use to have after thanksgiving ever year? They have not had it since they went to dirt. Ever time i went they had 60 plus cars and the stands were full heck they had people pulling cars from Tennessee. They held it for like 14 years in a row. I always looked forward to the weekend after thanksgiving. So come on Ocala lets have a big enduro race.

My personal opinion is that Enduro's are like the payphone.....They served there purpose and had a good run, but now it's time to move on. When they first started, they were great. Problem with this type of racing is that the "regular/upper" drivers would find a car and go completely through them and end up with basically a brand new car. IT was a great idea when it first started, but once again, the "real" drivers ruined this form of racing. JMO

To me when you have 200 laps you even ever one out because you have to last the whole time. Now my cars not new but i have done more than knock the glass out and run. Just about every enduro i been to has a great car and fan count so i know the tracks making some money.

        ????

Maybe I'm sticking my neck out here. I have not heard of an enduro race on 'dirt'. Seems it would be more like a crash-o-rama with no yellow flags. Turns 3-4 at Ocala would be completely blocked after about 5 laps.

About 8 years ago we had an enduro at Ocala with over 100 cars. They started 4 wide under the flag stand and the pole cars hit the tail cars before they even started rolling. Imagine being a lapped car before you even started rolling. The fans were going wild with laughter.

Maybe an enduro on dirt would be a good idea. Limit it to 75 pure stocks for 75 or less laps. I'd buy a ticket to see that.

RIP Jack Smith and Kim Brown. Many thanks for all you have done for our sport.

We used to run them at Volusia in the mid '80s... Tons of cars in each one... Remember one of them where Ernie Shaffer finished about 14th or 15th and won the thing because all the cars that finished in front of him could not pass tech... Had another on a Sunday following the (former) Annual Street Stock 100... talk about a packed pit area.... Even Ivedent Lloyd won one of them in 1985 driving a station wagon...

Ocala's first enduro was when the track was dirt.
