Yes Bob....It's me.
The first year East Bay opened (1977)they let Cagle run the last few races of the year.
I say "let" because he brought his Northern Modified with a Camaro body hung on it and called it a Late Model. Of course he pretty much blew everybody's doors in but that was a different time and a different place back then. He was the hometown star who "done good up north", come back to play with the little people. Illegal? Pshaw....
When I was fifteen and Wily Will had spun Dad out of the lead and into the inside wall with a few laps to go in the season ending 50 lapper, we were on the hook heading back to the pits and he looked over as he circled the track under caution. I took the right rear spring that had been knocked out and thought about chucking it at him. But instead I slammed it on the ground and it flew up about 20 feet. I looked over at Cagle and he was watching it all the way up and all the way back down. I thought that was funny as hell. He came over after he won and apologized to Dad but I wasn't having any of it. He was on my ----list for years after that.
Can't remember what years he promoted at the Bay but it was the late 80's when he was running a dirt track in New York. Think it was rither Rolling Wheels or Caniduwhatsitsnameaga.
I have some old clippings from Plant Field I need to find. Dad ran there, Buzz Barton, Cagle, Billy Gill, the Reuttimanns, Frankie Schneider....lots of great names. Need to find that......
Anyways, I hope he comes to the reunion. He and Dad actually were friends(except for that night) Maybe I'll ask him if he remembers watching that spring fly.....
He does look damn good tho.....Last edited by Osmosis Jones; 12-04-2007, 02:33 AM.
