  • Super Late Model.....rolex Gt Corvette?

SUPER LATE MODEL, ROLEX GT CORVETTE...WELL NOT EXACTLY...BUT PRETTY CLOSE.

We didn't think you have to spend 375 k to build a ROLEX 24 GT racer.
So Squeak Kennedy and I put our two heads together came up with half a brain and decided to build a Corvette using proven short track technology.

The car is being built at BEMCO FAB by Woody, who besides all the asphalt and dirt cars, has built quite a few road race cars over the years including the CAMEL GT Firebird of the Dingman Bros back in the 80's.

The IDEA: Build a perimeter frame SQUARE tube chassis with a Grand National
floater rear end from SPEEDWAY ENGINEERING, A NASCAR EMCO or Jerico 4 speed road race geared tranny, a SCHWANKE RACING ENGINES all aluminum Corvette LS6 motor.

Also, HOWE upper and lower A frames, ball joints, etc, SWEET rack,
PENSKE remote canister shocks, a 3 link rear suspension with WATTS link. 18 inch custom wheels from CCW, probably billet Wilwood SL4 STR severe duty short track/road course brakes, and 13 inch rotors.

The body is a gutted stock 2008 Corvette, is not very heavy and was CHEAP!

The chassis is complete, 2/3 of the body mounted, rear end, most suspension, steering etc in the car. The motor is done and dyno'd, soon to be shipped.

We hope to test our "super late model" road racer in late summer and hopefully make the season ending GRAND AM race at Homestead.

We will also enter it as a GT-1 Racer in the V8 StockCar series. (a whole bunch cheaper to race there!)

I'll try to add pics later. For now they can be seen on the message board at
    garra-fans.com

    I beg to differ!

Bill Bembenster of Bemco Engeneering built Billy and Richy Dingman's road race car.

I saw this car last week. It's a very nice piece of work. I saw it had most of the body mounted and used stock door hinge locations. Who made the light weight one piece roof panel? I like how it has the cowl flange for the windshield to mount to. I like the look of the square tube chassis. I think it is a cool idea and should work. Woody is great guy also.

P.S. I hope you change the color from yellow, all we need to see is another yellow Vette. JMO

oneoff, wasn't it Woody there doing the fabrication for Bill? I'm sure Bill did the design. Never the less Woody has done a number of road race cars including my road race stock car build in 2005.

Yeah, but nothing tops that K-car of yours. You should get Woody to fix it up for you.

What SCCA class would it run in?

The Vette would be able to run in SPO, and possibly GT-1 and Trans Am.

Our car is based on the stock wheelbase 105.7 inches. Strangely, the SCCA wheelbase is 102, actually I guess not that strange as the Derhaag and ACP bodies are 102. Every other car is based on the stock wheelbase.

I would have to ask for the stock wheelbase to be included.

The SCHWANKE RACING LS6 motor has been installed along with a new Quartermaster triple disc clutch and reverse mount starter.

it is not listed for any IT or production categories so you would have to run it in SPU. Or maybe they can make another class. How does Spec K sound ?

I quit fishing because there was no one handing out money at the docks when i got back. Why did you quit racing?
