  • Did They Axe the Wrong Dude?

I remember when news broke that Dale Earnhardt Jr. was going to be racing at Hendrick Motorsports, people here and on other message boards said that it would be a defining moment. In other words, if Dale Jr. could not find success at Hendrick, then it must be Dale and not DEI as many had said at the time.

OK. So now that Tony Eury Jr. has been thoroughly flattened by the rear wheels of the bus, are people still thinking that way? I mean seriously, even if Rick Hendrick thought Dale Jr. couldn't win a go kart race, he'd be a fool to fire NASCAR's most popular driver and a dude who goes "ka-ching" every time he takes a step. Right?

I'm still not convinced that Dale Jr. is as bad as some folks think, but then again I know that he ain't his daddy either. I'm just curious as to what others think.

My opinion, Jr has same driver's talent level as Hamlin, Kenseth, Biffle, etc. No more no less.He is no ding dong, but not a Jeff Gordon or JJ either and definitly not Sr..

      Jr. vs Sr.

Jr. will probably never be the driver his father was... but does he need to? he needs to be the best HE can be and i think he may realize he hasnt been racing within his capabilities. he has taken full responsibility for his poor performance lately. maybe now he will try harder and realize that NO ONE is indispensable... the owners put out alot of money...they want some of it to pay off....
i feel bad for him... his dad was teaching him how to be a racer. not a clone... i agree with Andre...
ive never been in his company outside of a one time experience at Homestead... but i am always reading about his hard drinking and partying. i dont think that makes for a champion racer... maybe he needs to slow down and take his opportunity more seriously... just a thought. he got off to a very tough start... now he is wearing his own shoes and he is a racer in his own right.

        It will help a little

I think Jr. will do better. I don't think he will ever do great. I have felt for a long time that Eury Jr. cannot make adjustments quickly like you have to do during a race. But if he has time and isn't rushed he can do so. I say this because it seems that during practice and even qualifying Jr. seems to be fast. He will start the race fast a lot of times but ends up fading too the back. Then take someone like Jimmy Johnson and Chad Knaus adjusts the car during the race and always gets it better. Junior never has and never will be close to what his father was in a race car. But then again no other driver will be either!!!

how many Tony Eury, Jr hats do you see people wearing?

the dude selling out the collectible trailer and signing deals with sponsors is always the Right Dude To Keep. even if he's a non-driver like Mikey Waltrip or Kyle Petty.

the problem for Juuuuuun-yer is that if he doesn't start winning, he's going to stop selling. then he becomes disposable. i think Junior Nation is starting to run out of patience.

Mark Martin's success this year is a really harsh comparison and i think a lot of people are noticing it.

Let's put on our thinking hats

Let's name son's or daughter's that were better that their father's or mothers.
Was older Bush better running this country than younger Bush?
Was Davey Allison a better driver that Bobby? I think he would have been.
            Is David better than Buzzie?
Is Earl Pearson Jr. better that Sr? He has better equiptment now that then.
Is little France better running NASCAR than Big Bill?
Am I a better man than my father? Never happened.
Why can't we just let siblings be natural?
How many times have you heard someone say, "He (she) ain't nothing like his (her) father (mother)".

I'm no real fan of Jr. but I don't dislike him either. I think he worry's about living up to the expectations of a name to much. If he just focused on driving and not about being on CRIBS and opening a night club he might be in a better position as far as his driving career goes.
