Actually the saying is, "even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while." Given David's past track record in qualifying, particularly in the Nationwide/Busch series, which really got him recognized, I'm not so sure the statement fits.
Now say, if someone like Paul "It's okay that I'm a ride buyer because I'm American" Menard won the pole, then you could absolutely use that expression.
