  • NASCAR must really have it out for the independent teams.

NASCAR has issued penalties to the #7 team that competes in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series as a result of rules violations committed at Lowe’s Motor Speedway earlier this week. The #7 car, driven and owned by Robby Gordon, was found to be in violation of Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4I (any determination by NASCAR Officials that the race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20-10.6H (rear axle housing exceeded the maximum specified toe of plus or minus one degree) of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rule Book. The violation was found during post-race inspection on May 25. As a result, Gordon has been penalized with the loss of 50 championship owner and 50 championship driver points. Crew chief Kirk Almquist has been fined $50,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31.

Im not all quite sure what that means but it cant improve preformance that much. Its not a HUGE penalty but he is trying to stay in the top 35 in points so this hurts

NASCAR's policy is ignorance is not an excuse. If it's wrong, it's wrong. Plain and simple.

No wonder I love dirt racing so much better than asphalt. One degree of ANY kind of adjustment won't win a dirt race, but in Nascar it's a good enough reason to throw a few guys to the wolves.

But not the top guys of course. They really needed Carl Long's money, or I'm sure meeting payroll this week would have been a problem.

And guess where all the penalty money goes??? Into the points fund for the top drivers in the year-end points! And have you ever heard of that fund increasing because of fine money collected? I think Nascar pockets that fund, or plays the shell game with it until it can't be found.

It seems I've heard that this policy changed a few years ago, but I'm not real sure. If anyone knows how they do it these days, let me know!

I seem to remember hearing that penalty monies is now given to charity. I believe Nascar wives or something like that. Could be completely wrong though. It surprises me that Gordon's penalty, which seems to be an attempt to improve performance, is less than Long's which appears to have been a mistake. I just can't understand.

I guess they NASCAR doesn't think that there is a real chance that they will ever be short of cars for a race keep this up and we will see. The field fillers are slowly falling by the wayside. I guess Blaney will be next.

I am quoting this from a NASCAR insider... no details yet, but here it is...

"NASCAR teams are really going to hate rain delays now. 10 crew members tested during rain delay at the Coke 600!!! Stay tuned!"
