What's the shock if true ?...He gloriously proclaimed he was going to return Indiannapolis to American short track racers in his Open Wheel magazine article right after the split. What I saw was 11 Americans racing in one of America's greatest events and only a couple had a chance to actually win...There's no name recognition other than Helio & Danica. And worst of all there was NO racing.
On a side note, who would have guessed AJ Foyt would replace Vitor Miera with Paul Tracy for this week's race at Milwaukee?

I do agree , Paul Tracy and the AJ Foyt team are an interesting combo . Couild turn out to be a good mix at THE MILE .
For better or worse , Tony IS the IRL and the Speedway . I give him credit for using the Speedway the way it should have been . Tony brought Nascar , F1 , and motorcycles to Indy . F1 didn't work out too well the last time they were there , but they may be back .
And Tony is the only reason that Champ Car ( CART ) and the IRL were re- united . Tony had the guts to go his own way when he disagreed with the former , held his ground , and the millionaires club that was Champ Car self destructed . Making the Indy 500 into an Amercan drivers race really isn't up to Tony . The car owners hire anyone they want . Putting aside how we can determine who really is an American ( only the American indian is a full blooded American , the rest of us are of mixed heritage ) there were some great runs this year by Townsend Bell , Danica Patrick , Sarah Fisher , and a number of others who deserved to be there . Even Davey Hamilton .

From Jayski:
UPDATE: Tony George denied a report today that he has been ousted from his key role at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, saying he still holds all leadership positions associated with the family-owned business. "I am still CEO and still president of Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation, Hulman and Company, and CEO of the Indy Racing League," George said. According to the report -- which came from an online media company, and was picked up by two local news outlets -- a decision to dismiss George came at Tuesday night's board of directors meeting. George, however, described the meeting as "typical," as did his mother, Mari Hulman George, who is chairman of the board. Hulman George also said there was no call to oust her son, who has held leadership positions at IMS since 1990.(Indianapolis Star)(5-27-2009)
