  • June 6 - Auburndale Speedway - Race #2 - 2009 FL Triple Crown Series - DCKS

In the early morning hours of June 6, 1944, Americans received word that three years of concerted war efforts had finally culminated in D-day. During the night, over 5,300 ships and 11,000 planes had crossed the English Channel and landed on the beaches of Normandy. The goal of every soldier and civilian involved in that effort was to drive the German military back to Berlin by opening a western front in Europe. In all, 135,000 Allied soldiers landed and parachuted onto the beaches that morning.

At about 3:00 a.m. on D-Day, on the four-meter swells of the English Channel, Allied troops transferred to those landing craft, some twelve miles off the French coast. British troops headed left toward Caen, the Americans right toward Utah and Omaha beaches nearer Cherbourg, and the Canadians to Juno Beach.

For the Americans, Omaha was a near-suicide mission. They faced a wall of bullets. Within ten minutes of landing, every officer and sergeant of the 116th Regiment was dead or wounded. Yet, by 10:00 a.m., as Americans received the first news of D-Day, 300 men had struggled through mortar fire, across the body and equipment strewn beach, and up a bluff to attack the German defenses. By nightfall, the Allies had a toehold on the continent, yet, on "Bloody Omaha" alone, 3,000 Americans lay dead.

On the 65th Anniversary of D-Day, the Desoto Champ Kart Series remembers the young men and women who gave their lives, so that we can enjoy our liberties and freedom of today.

Man I wished I could go.

I 'll bet that that's one heck of a SHOW. Anytime those boys race it's WELL worth their value. But, I do think they should change their name to
      "THE DAYTONA DRAFTING CART SERIES".
I can only hold my breath when so many can race so close and get away with it most of the time. They are true RACERS!!!!
      Go getup "THUNDERS HEARD"!!!
And thanks for the show you put on everywhere you go. Very Pro!!!

The Series would like to thank everyone for the large turnout of drivers and crew at Auburndale Speedway last night, for Race #2 of the 2009 Florida Triple Crown Series. This is a four-race series, at four different stock car tracks, with one drop allowed. The remaining two Triple Crown races are October 31 at Charlotte County Motorsports Park, and December 5 at Orlando Speedworld.

Two heat races were run, to set the running order of the feature. After they were finished, it was FRISBEE time!!! Earlier in the evening, at the driver's meeting, all of the drivers were asked to sign a red Desoto Champ Kart Series Frisbee and to write their kart number on it. The Frisbees were donated by Creative World Early Learning Centers, for each of the 4 Triple Crown races in 2009. Prior to the feature, series director Phil Harp went up into the grandstand, and passed out the frisbees to the fans in the stands. The track announcer then told the crowd that the fan who possessed the winning frisbee would be allowed to come down and have his/her picture with the winner after the feature, and be given $25 CASH! And, the series paid for a copy of the winner's photo from the track photographer, for the winning fan.

2008 Desoto Super Speedway Late Model Champion Dustin Chisholm claimed the win, followed by Tara "The Terror" Henderson in second (after starting at the tail due to a problem in her heat), with former Fascar Goodyear Challenge Late Model competitor Raymond Folwell finishing third.

IN ADDITION to the feature winners glass trophy and cash payout of $300 CASH, Dustin also collected a free powder coating job from BDSax Powder Coating (owner Billy Dzama), and a free bottle of Nascar Legend Junior Johnson's Midnight Moonshine!!! (donated by Coker Racing Enterprises)

Thanks to the turnout of drivers and crew, and the support of sponsors, the series paid out approx. $1100 in cash, awards and contingency prizes after the feature.

        Finishing Order:

        1) Dustin Chisholm
