  • North Wilkesboro Reopening...??

    http://www.randyayersmodeling.com/mo...ic.php?t=50487

http://www.race22.com/summer2009news..._to_Rumbl.html <---- story with pictures of a car on the track

Two weeks notice...?? Actuially, the race date is *this* coming Saturday.

Have any of you long-time fans heard about this? PASS Super Late Models and some other "Late Model Stock" cars. 200 laps for the Supers, 100 laps for LMS. $7,500 to win for the 200-lapper, $4,000 for the 100-lapper.

Have not heard of this guy, nor have not heard or seen anything on Speed51 or Jayski about this happening.

This has been a drawn out process. I read about it somewhere quite a while ago. I believe it was Jayski. It may have been somewhere else though.

I have no idea who operates the site, but there is a North Wilkesboro MySpace profile that has been around for some time. That site has had regular updates on this, but while it might be the most promising chance for something positive to happen at that track, my guess is it will go bust pretty quickly.

Apparently there's another group that's been involved with the track for quite some time - Save The Speedway (www.savethespeedway.net). The article had said they have been involved with the track for quite some time, waiting for Bruton to do something with it, and have been in talks with Smith over the last several years. This latest guy, however, apparently has had NO contact with the Save The Speedway group, and is putting a rush job on get the track ready for this weekend.

Save The Speedway has stated that the track has no working sewage or water system; several buildings are infested with mold (one even needs to be torn down completely); the track needs a repaving job after sitting for 13+ years; and the walls and catch fence aren't in the greatest shape. The guy that's putting on this show this weekend has said that that all is "no problem, they're ready" for a show Saturday.

        Look at this asphalt:

No way in h*** that I'd run my Super Late Model on that pavement.

Before I came back to Florida, I was actually the PR guy for Save the Speedway. The track does need a lot of work, but it's not outside the realm of possibility that a race could be run there this Saturday. They'd be better served to run Sunday. There's already a PASS and UARA race scheduled the same day.

This guy is an idiot as a promoter, but there were a handful of late models testing at the track on Saturday. Lap times got into the 20s (which was what they were in the 1990s there) and the tire wear was "reasonable."

I know the STS guys are against him, but I'm rooting for this Collins guy. Hell, if he can prove to me that there'll be 40 cars in the pits, I may just head north this weekend.

Yeah, this Collins guy is running the PASS and UARA rulebook for Saturday's race, but it's not an officially-sanctioned event by either organization. Hope that maybe they do get some good exposure, hope that the race does good money-wise, and maybe we'll see racing return on a regular basis.

Sure wish that this weekend's races were televised; I'd sit home and watch it in a heartbeat over the Dover stuff.

Found out a little more today. Apparently, there are a lot of drivers that are going to show up for both races. I still have my doubts as to whether or not this will all happen.
