I havn't heard a thing about this years race, which is in two days; followed by the ol' World 600 stock car race.
No insights, no postings, no news reports at all about this years race. Havn't even seen anything on the sports channels. No drama about the final hour on Bump-Day, not even a mention about it at all. No mention about it from Gasoline Alley this year. I havn't searched it out much, but the news out there has been nil, nada, zero, ziltch.
Time trials not covered at all on ESPN at all this year, it seems.

Has anyone heard anything?

The Indianapolis 500 is a staple from 1911, and it seem that there is nothing out there on this years race. No big news.

33 starters, 3 wide as always, doesn't seem to be a problem filling the spots.

I was lucky enough to be able to catch Bump Day on tv , and there was certainly some drama . They have a very good field of cars , and some real dark horse drivers , the return of Paul Tracy for example .

I'm having an Indy 500 party with my kids; gotta get 'em hooked early. Indy is the only race I make a point of watching.

weve had good coverage in the news here but it has definitely lost alot of media lustre. i agree with boney... its an awesome historical event without alot of the NASCAR drama... just good racing.
this is going to be a "wet" weekend i fear so racing might not happen for alot of people. might be a good weekend to share with loved ones... im planning to take hailey and bobby ice skating in ellenton!!! ;-)

Bump Day did have some drama, but not much.

I don't leave the house on Sunday and I have strict orders to not interrupt me during the Indy 500. Plus I bet heavily on the race to make it even more entertaining.

You can reasonably discount the AGR cars, but the Penske and Chip Ganassi cars will be upfront. My darkhorse this year is Graham Rahal and I've got money riding on him. I'm not discounting Paul Tracy either. The car hasn't been a rocket, but he knows how to get around there.

I'd love to see Sarah Fisher get a top 10.

Too bad Bodog doesn't have a bet for how long it will take Milka Duno to crash.

I have allways loved the indy 500 My favorite driver in the old Indycar/ champ car/cart series was Bobby Rahal so I would love to see Graham win it.While at work I have been following practice the last few weeks watching live streams from indy500.com. I enjoyed this years Bump day it had almost as much drama as the year that unser Jr and Rahal got bumped from the field. So should be a fun weekend. Racing the modified at Auburndale on Saturday weather permitting wake up sunday and watch the indy 500

Petty Enterprises put a car in the field this year, with John Andretti. Good to see the Petty Blue/STP Red back at Indy...reminds me of the old Pat Patrick Racing colors. Andretti *almost* didn't make the field; he was part of the drama on Bump Day.

The real races are TONIGHT!...World of Outlaws LIVE on SPEED from Charlotte... I still watch Indy but they have done everything they can to kill off big time open wheel racing in the US. Until they figure out their heyday was with American drivers and American sponsors, Nascrap has them beat...

Tell me there wouldn't be some excitement if Jac Haudenschild or Fred Rahmer were starting with competitive rides at Indy this year. Just look back at the excitement Steve Kinser & Jack Hewitt brought a few years ago.

I'm pulling for Davey Hamilton, Sarah Fisher and AJ Foyt IV (American short tracker racers).

They had coverage all month long it just isn't on a major network. It is on Versus. If you get that channel their coverage has been good, and they have Bob Jenkins who always does a great job announcing.

The funny thing to me is that after all the drama of the split between IRL/CART, they are right back where they were when they split in the first place. Tony George did try to get an "American" series with cost containment etc, but it failed and now they have basically CART 2009 (with some measure of spec rules etc) However with the looming engine changes (headed to turbo's with multiple manufacturers) they are going to lose their grip and be right back where they were years ago. Thing was, the Indy 500 was much better years ago, so maybe this circle is actually progress - just with Tony George now in charge.

Helio Castroneves is a good bet to win, but even a better bet that we'll have to watch another interview with him crying again. I swear, he always cries a river, sobs uncontrollably like a little girl at the nearest camera. One of his crew members should clue him in, let him know that it's OK once in a while in the garage, but not every single hour out in public.

You called it, and I completely agree. I understand being excited but it makes me wonder about him....
