    According to Speed51:

"One of the most shocking developments during Snowball Derby qualifying was hearing the times of one of the best-financed teams in the infield, the Richie Wauters-prepared cars driven by Steven Wallace and Jason Hogan (driving for Kyle Busch). Wallace could only post a time good enough for 33rd while Hogan timed in 36th. This was shocking because of the meticulous preparation from Wauters’ teams as well as the sheer number of tires the team used to make mock qualifying runs.

A source close to the team told Speed51.com they used up to 11 sets of tires on Friday, which equals out to $6600".

Here's where my opinion kicks in. I didn't want anyone to think the following was posted by Speed51....

Idiots like this are what's hurting Asphalt racing. Racing against an unlimited budget for tires makes a lot of teams feel as if they can't compete wth them. Each team is only allowed 4 sets for the entire 300 lap Derby. They used 11 in practice alone, most times only getting 3-5 laps on each set. What fools... glad their outrageous spending got them a big fat ZERO for it.

And they are still not in the race with either car. Each will still need a set for the qualifying race, plus 4 sets each for the race. Assuming they make it in with both cars, they will have spent approximately $12,600.00 on tires ALONE.

You can buy 2 complete engines for the Snowflake race for about the same amount!

I heard that johnny clark only bought one set of tires for practice and beat the pants off them. that's what is still right about racing, but sadly they are fewer and farther between.

The fact that Big $$$ did not get in the show will be LOST if no paper picks up on it. The SPIN doctors will have the porblem being a mechanical problem, lose nut behind wheel, helmet strap to tight cut off brain flow, shoe lace got caught in the brake pedal. Big buck folks have more ways of sounding great NOT making a show then the low budget does making the show.
I wish that the back yard man could see this and understand that a good driver in a bad car will run better than a bad driver in a good car.

Jerry, The same kind of things go on else where like in the Southern Sportsmen Series. To me it just proves the tires aren't the only thing that get a car around a track. It's the setup and the drivers them self. They make the biggest differences. Then when all else is equal THEN tires are the next thing that helps. Limits on the number of tires being used have to be made. Or else there will be even more cars sitting at home.

Sunbelt could do the same, but.....

I think you know how that sentence is finished!

By the way, Derf... really cool to meet you at the Gov. Cup race. You KNOW your stuff! I always respect (even if I don't agree) the fans who are educated enough to give an educated opinion and debate. You know what you're talking about. I can tell in 5 minutes or less whether someone is talking from knowledge, or just running at the mouth. With you, it took less than 2 minutes to know where you fall in! Hope to see you again soon.... Jerry
