Heard a rumor....a *rumor* mind you...that the PRI race events would head over to the Walt Disney World 1-mile tri-quad-penta-oval. Depending on who you talk to, that track has three, four, or five turns. A lot of people compare it to Penske's Nazareth Speedway.
LOL...that's what I'm sayin'...look at that kink in the "backstretch" before getting into "turn two"...then the kink on the straightaway between "turn two" and "turn three"...you can certainly see it when you see the track in person. And the guys that drive for the Richard Petty thing out there say they make FIVE turns per lap....ROTFL
The Silver Crown races that were held there in the early 2000's were outstanding, as were the IRL races. It's a shame that Disney pulled the plug on the whole thing.
Midgets, Sprints and Silver Crown would be an outstanding show there.
The big problem I see with the whole theory though, is the track is not lighted... and the PRI show is an all-day event. When could they possibly schedule the races where it wouldn't overlap with the Trade show?
My dream would be to hold a Chili Bowl South event, inside the Convention Center. It would pack both the pits and the stands. But, again a problem with this idea... I've heard that the Orange County regulations will not allow the fuel inside the buildings, going so far as having to drain the fuel tanks of all vehicles on display at the Trade show.
Lighting isn't the problem, temporary lighting easily fixes that at this track- it's been done before. The real obstacle is the stands, but that is fixable with enough $$$. Rumor stage is where its at, but USAC officials have met with Disney and others about this possibility, we'll see......
It could only be a well-needed boost for Disney right now since their overall business is down around 40%... I don't think running Midgets there would be a good idea though... Volusia has three nights of racing planned during the PRI weekend, so at least there's something going on... Would really be neat to see non-wing USAC Sprints and Midgets at VSP!!!
