  • Auburndale Motor Speedway--

A rare treat it was go to this fine facility, along with a few buds of mine, Boneman and Ancrdave, great company they were, yessirree!
Greeted by Mr. Rex Guy, the promoter and a few of his fine staff, saw some of the best 1/4 mile asphalt stock car racing anywhere, and what a sight for sore eyes it was.
Started at 6:30 PM with heats, and then the features, including the Super Late biggie, starting 17 of the monsters, and what a race it was.
This was a good night to be out, and Auburndale Motor Speedway was the right time to be there for a good ol' fashioned night out at the races. I was entertained top to bottom.
Price was right, the facilities were fine, the food was great, and the company was terriffic.
Took no time at all to get there, the parking lot was ready for us, so was the ticket takers, minimal standing in line.
I hadn't realized how high the banks were, and they are high. Alot higher than I had ever thought. I hadn't realized how tight the 1/4 mile Raceway was, and it was tight. I also hadn't realized how much this seemingly old tired Raceway had somehow emerged from the graveyard, and is now truely once again a fine Raceway.
It is almost like being at the old long lost Sunshine Speedway once again, except with higher banks. Man oh man, I was impressed all the way around.
Great racing, high banks, full fields, good food, excellent company, and cheap admission prices. What the heck more can you ask for?
I think I have found a new (new?) Saturday night asphalt track to hit.

Its been a great weekend! I had a good time racing at Speedworld on Friday, then made my first 2009 spectator trip to Auburndale.

I thought Auburndale was vastly improved with the new management. My previous visits (under the old regime) were always marred by pit-clearing brawls and a messy facility. Last night, I found the cleanest race track bathrooms in memory, lots of friendly people and most importantly a well-run, competitive show.

I came away with two great ideas from the Auburndale model. First, instead of interviewing the top 3 finishers in the SLM race, the announcer just handed them the mic and let each guy go. They were brief and much more interesting than comments that come from an interview.

Also, it confirmed my theory that racing is better when the cars have bumpers instead of aero noses. Its great for the slower classes because it is easier on the mechanics, and a little contact is part of a good show.

    Good job AMS!
