I say we run heats instead of BORING qualifying which nobody will be there to watch anyway... Then have a fan draw a number for how many rows to invert (say 0-4)... The consensus of this huge "what a joke" thread this week is that the SHOW is lacking... We need to give people a SHOW... If you are afraid to RACE to earn your starting spot, then you need to stay home because you are not a RACER... Just my opinion as a fan rather than an emloyee, but as an announcer, doing qualifying in front of 30 (maybe) fans is an embarrassment when you could add more to the show and maybe get a few fans to return on a regular basis... If you have to do time trials, again, like WOO, UDLMCS and others, make it part of the regular show and do it at 8PM so the fans get their money's worth... Not everybody can get to the track by 7... Let's get some opinions on this... Am I off base?

Gotta agree with Dave, racing for your spot is better than boring old time trials. A couple of heats would certainly add some muscle to what has been an anemic show lately.

The racers are expecting to time trial and race, so naturally most will resent a last minute change that requires them to run another heat. These are the same racers who will happily run 200 laps of practice, but will squeal about a 10 lap qualifier.

          Amen Brother.

Although I do want to point out, it isn't meant as a slam against just the Truck racers, it's most asphalt racers in general.

There's a difference in being a racer, and someone who goes fast in circles!

Thats fair enough I suppose. I see it as this though,
If practice is offered then I want as much as I can get and here are the reasons,
            1. I am inexperienced and need practice
            2. I cannot afford to race every week to get the seat time that I need/want
            3. I dont want to tear my equipment up due to inexperience
            4. I dont want to tear someone elses equipment up due to my inexperience
            5. I know the best practice is in competition but I like having a feel for the car and track.

I can honestly see both sides of that argument.

I guess too many of these big money teams can go out and practice all week long, race week in and week out and try different set ups. I can see where some get too fast in a truck/car during practice and cannot control it in traffic.

If a car is pushing because you didnt get any practice, then there isn't a whole lot that you can do to make your car competitive during the race. I can't think of too many that come out that don't want to compete.

How can you afford to practice, yet not afford to race? I don't get that one Ed!

The tracks in the Northeast usually have a single practice day prior to the season starting, and about 10 or so minutes of track time on race nights. That's IT. Drivers get the seat time and experience by getting OUT there, staying out of the way of faster cars, earning respect, asking questions... and getting faster every week.

Many of the top racers are willing to give a few tips to speed up newer/less experienced racers, as they don't want to have to lap a "weapon" rather than a semi-competitive lapped car. It's much safer than passing a car that is soooo far out to lunch, than a car that is nearly the same speed as yourself. As an example, Emily Cottrell should NOT be out there in the Mini's (4laps down in a 6 lap heat is dangerous).

You don't really need a bazillion laps of practice, when a couple of good tips on handling and gearing would get you a hell of a lot closer, and a hell of a lot cheaper too!

Endless practice sessions are killing Asphalt racing!

I think you missed my point completely. Let me try this again, When I go to the track, I would like as many laps as possible because it may be a few months before I can make it again. Not just cost but time as well. When I raced every couple of weeks I didn't need it. Does that make better sense?

How many of these racers out there will actually ask someone? At the track, I don't care who you talk to but everybody knows everything there is to know about racing and you end up getting a lot of bad advise.

                  Answer to Dave !

The idea is a good one, but...........we have already posted how we were doing it on the flyer, I will not change now, but will consider it for future races. We will have an inversion to try to make the race a better show !

                  Practice, Qualifying etc .
We all have opinions on this and many other things. Who's is right who's is wrong....the answer is all of them, because it is your opinion and your likes. We will not make everyone happy with each thing we try or do. But I do listen and consider so please be sure to post your thoughts in a considerate and proper way. Remember everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Thanks
