  • All Modified racers see big announcement on the June 19th Joslin Memorial 50 at OSW !

Modified driver all over we are working to make this event a great, fun event !

OPEN TREADED TIRE RACE.......thats right NO slicks, open treaded tires.....Hoosier, Goodyear or American Racer.....drivers choice !

Right now the race pays $1000 to win ! I am currently working on sponsors to add to the purse either in front or throughout ! We are selling laps for $20 each. So far we have sold 12, it will be up on the Speedworld Site soon.

I am trying to sell awards such as Fast Qualifier, 1/2 way leader and hard luck awards for $100 each. If you want to help in any of these or know of some one who would please ask them to call me !

We will announce more and more and present the final payout and awards and lap money payout by June 12th, one week before the big event !

A twist will be set up for deciding the starting line up for the race later as well, or a twist maybe at the 1/2 way mark.....hmmmmm. You will have to pay close attention !!!!!

Don't miss the chance to run a fun race, and remember a couple of great people Dick Joslin and Jerry Joslin long time racers, and friends !

For more information call me at 407-497-0448 or e-mail RBristol@fascar.org

I had to read that post twice Rick . An OPEN TIRE RACE ! Some tracks are paying attention after all . When one or two brands turn out to be faster than the others , don't be shy about letting the manufacturers know . That will start the competition among tire makers . Later on , put a reasonable ceiling on the price per tire that a manufacturer can charge your racers , stick to that pricing , and the racers will love you .
We've got Putnam , and now Orlando . Which track is going to step up next ?

      Just to clarify tires !

THey have to be one of the three tires being use at Florida Race Tracks, we are getting the numbers and compounds ad will post them when we have them. I am trying to get the info for you to get them and the pricing per tire as well.

We have to think differently these days, we need to work together !

      Thanks !

        thats right NO slicks

Why no slicks? Most of the mods will be from NSS and OSW and they already have slicks.I don't race mods but will they really want to buy a new set just for one race.I know you are trying to bring in some mods from other tracks that do run those tires. If you want to race open tires then open it to both tires. There will prob be alot less cars that have to buy slicks then have to buy treaded tires.I just dont want to see any of our home track mods sitting out cause they dont want to or cant buy the treaded tires.

That just changed my plans (not that you care about having my car there anyway). Was planning on running the race, but I can't do 2 sets of tires for 1 race and basically toss them aside. And then back to the slicks. We that run slicks will need 2 sets, 1 to practice on to get the car working for that tire and 1 set for the race (having enough issues getting it to work on slicks!). Then back to the slicks. Spend $900.00 on tires for a chance to win a Grand? The one that have been running the treadded tires as they are called have the advantage. They have run on slicks in the past so they would have a baseline to go off of if they were to have to change to slicks. So much for the local guys that support the track every week, and cater to the out of town guys. Oh Well. It is what it is.

Luis, most guys buy tires regardless.

DD38....why on earth do you think you need 2 sets of tires? Buy 1 set and run two 5 lap practice sessions. You make it sound like your going from round to square tires, use your same staggers and play with the air pressure. Hint, Hint..you can run the treaded tires with a bit more air pressure and get better results.

Another perk depending on what compound you choose, you can now run another track 5 or 6 times on that SAME set of tires.
Normalcy is a myth. what is perfectly normal for the Cheetah, Becomes absolute chaos for the Antelope.

              Tire Issue !

The move was not just to try to get cars from other tracks, it is also a way to test this and evaluate the deal. You do not need to buy two sets of tires unless that is what you feel you need to do. You all ran on the goodyear grooved tires before. It aint changed that much since then. Butch and I are trying something so we can try to make some decisions going forward. It is not meant to me a penalty to the locals by any stretch of the imagination. We want everyone to come race and have a good time, but we have to look at somethings and this is an opportunity to do so. Please do not try to be negative and bring things down, we are really trying to work on some things. If you look at some of the things we are doing, we have listened to the drivers and we are changing some things, no promise everything will get changed, but we are trying. Butch, myself, and Kim are committed to making things better and Robert is working with us on it. Please give things a chance. Thanks

Rick , you and Butch are certainly headed in the right direction . Keep it up . But i have a question on the tires in general . Where did the idea for treaded tires over slicks get started ? And why ? Are they cheaper ? They shouldn't be . Slicks have been used , and are used , almost everywhere on almost every type of car and track . Since they are everywhere already , i would think THEY would be cheaper .
I hope this idea catches on and is incorporated at all short tracks , not just in Florida . And this idea can be improved . As this open rule expands to other tracks , and it will , talk to the tire makers , all of the tire makers , not just the ones that other local tracks use . It just might be that a 10 or 12 inch slick would be the cheapest for all of them to produce . It could turn out that treaded tires , and tires under 10 inches wide are such a small part of the tires made , that all Florida tracks would be better off to go to wider slicks to save everyone money .
Even F1 decided to drop the treaded tires and go back to slicks . Part of that was because the tire manufacturer could make slicks at a cheaper price .

                    answer to tires

The treaded deal is because most think they last longer than the slicks, so it will allow you to run more races, we are gathering info mostly on this deal !
                    Thanks

Then evaluate it on a regular nite and give more warning. Or better yet get several cars and have a tire test session with different tires. This will be the 4th tire change in less than a year for the modifieds. Let's make up our mind and stay. The guys with money will still buy new tires every race or so anyway.

Thanks Rick. It seems to me that slicks would far outlast treaded tires in a race environment , IF the tires are of equal hardness . I know that Nascar has refused ( so far ) to use treaded tires in the rain because of rapid wear among other reasons . And the treaded rain tires in road racing disintegrate pretty fast in dry conditions , so they use slicks in the dry .
I'm certainly not an expert in race tires , but i know that all pro racing organisations use slicks on asphalt , road course and oval track , so i suspect there is a good reason for it . And if they see there is a market for wider slicks , trust me , the tire makers will fall all over themselves to build affordable wide slicks . Anyway , stick to the plan , bring sensible open tire rules to Florida stock car racing .

want to here something real funny about modifieds

you are worried about the price of set of tires . i know that rule is 7 lbs per cubic inch on modified .. so they are worried about 8 inch tires to keep price of cars down were there will be more cars have you ever looked at some of modifieds heck some of them has got ohlin lmj shocks on them they cost over 900,00 each i know some of got 25.000 engines in them and some spent even more yeah yeah and you got a junk yard motor in yours for hundred dollars and you got cheap crate motor with 50.00 rear end right and my name is john wayne and i.m fixing go hunt some injuns and your brother only got 800.00 in his whole car

heh want sell that junk yard motor you won with other night that you only had 1000.00 in it that you bought at junk yard . will buy you 7 sets of tires for it thats good profit add it up 4x480x7= 3360

DD38 - The race is over a month away and ......

                            Dave,

The Race is over a month away, we are not counting points, so it does not hurt the regular guys and we are not changing the tire rule in the middle of the season. This is a special stand alone race, if you do not want to buy tires and race it, that is your choice. But we are trying to make this a big race and make it fun, and test out something, if you did it on a regular night how would that help anything ?

You can either be positive, come have fun and try it, or not, but either way the race will go on and ones who do come will have fun !

                            Thanks

This is just my opinion Rick , and i'm no expert , but it probably isn't going to be productive to bicker with , and talk down to the people on this or any board . You've already come up with some good ideas , and you've shown that you're willing to work hard to make OSW happen , but you're gonna need all the friends you can get to make any track a success in this economy . Some people ( like me for instance ) are going to come up with stupid ideas , dumb questions , and try to pick a fight . But a promoter has to have thick hide and keep smiling no matter what . Accusing people of drinking from the cup of negativity has outlived its usefulness .
This wasn't meant as lecture , its just that some other track owners and promoters have gone down that path already and it didn't pay off .
