  • Sportsman Go for $1000 to Win this Saturday at Volusia Speedway Park

Barberville, FL (May 3, 2009) After a week off, Volusia Speedway Park returns to racing this Saturday night with We Love you Mom featuring Sportsman $1000 to win, Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks $500 to win and the always popular 4 Cyl Challengers.

With $1000 up for grabs, you can be sure that there will be a full Sportsman field. Shaun Daugharty was the winner of the last race and currently is the points leader but he can be sure that Steve Shead, Garret Stewart, Aaron Barsness and Drew Smith will give him a good run for the win. A large field is expected and you can be sure that there will be plenty of racing action in this field.

Rob Underwood topped the Modified field on April 18th and moved back to second in points. Dale Murray leads the points with Nick Kirkus, who recently took home the Modified win at Putnam County Speedway, in third followed by Jimmy Carter and Jason Davis. Davis, who seems to like only three wheels touching the racing surface, has one win under his belt along with Jimmy Carter. Jamie Carter has two wins so far and looking for the third.

Grady Christian tops the Street Stock points and has been almost unbeatable this year. It seems to make no difference where Grady starts in the feature, it is almost certain that he will be in Victory Lane at the end of the feature. Grady's newphew Bubba Christian stands second in points followed by Charlie Macnichol, Steve Mooers, and D.J. Nobles. Grady has four wins thus far this year with Bubba winning the first race of the year. Bubba is currently second in points at Ocala Speedway in the Hobby Stock class.

Tony Laporta has given few a chance to win in the 4-Cyl Challengers division and currently leads the points. Laporta has also shown he is not a "one track wonder" by winning at Ocala Speedway. Following Laporta in points is Danny Lunn, Gilbert Epsy (our winner on 4/25), RJ Glaser and Daniel Laird. Danny Lunn won last weekend at Putnam County Speedway. Tony Laporta is currently third in points at Ocala Speedway in the Gladitor division.

Although the Mini Stocks only run once a month, they always give the fans a good show. Topping the race on April 18th was Danny Vogel, Jr. followed by Jason Intoppo, Travis Staats (winner of race number one), Dan Kerr, and Charlie Staats. With $500 on the line, you can be sure that a full field will be on hand for Saturday's race.

Pit gate will open at 4:30 this Saturday with the grandstand gates opening at 5:30 pm. Racing starts at 7:30 pm.

Regular adult admission is only $10.00 with students 11-15 $5.00. Kids 10 and under are FREE and drive-in parking is only $10.00 per car. All mothers will get into the grandstands for only $8.00 and in the pits for $22.00. Happy Mother's Day to all our moms.

Volusia Speedway Park is located 15 miles west of Ormond Beach, FL on State Road 40. Additional information available at www.volusiaspeedwaypark.com or you may call 386-985-4402.

It really is going to be a great night at Volusia full moon or not. If you have never tried going there, try it. You will find some great racing and really nice people and hamburgers are not $5.00 there. So come on out tonight and watch as the Sportsman go at it for $1000 to win. Will Shaun take home the money or someone else, you can bet they will all do their best at winning that one.

Getting ready to leave Merritt Island and head to Volusia with Alex. Hope to see alot of you there and Happy Mother's Day to all the moms.
