  • In My Jet Wake--

    This summer, again, I am leaving all the stupid tire rules, low car counts, weight penalties, FASCAR, lack of passing, single file racing, and all the other 3 different divisions of semi-late model related controversies;

In my jet wake,(sniff it) to take upon, once again, a racing related short-track happening of ISMA Supermodifieds, MAIN EVENT Outlaw Super Late , HOSS Sprints, and other Short Track Classes that have none of these problems.

I am flying to the midwest to watch all of these Supers do what they are supposed to do: go fast, and not go through tech. Even in the mid-week.

At several different Raceways, I will be there to watch....
tires wider than they are tall,...
fuel injected big blocks burning methanol, as well as everyones eyes,...
more passing in one lap than I've seen in any class at any Raceway here in years.

And party'in that will make Woodstock seem like a Southern Baptist sponcered ice cream social .

I did it last year, at Winchester, Toledo, Baer Field, And Angola Speedways.

So, this year it seems that I might be traveling to Wisconsin/Illonois.

I want to see.....bad-fast, angry sounding engines, fire breathing, ground pounding, tire soaked, nose scooped, side boards, wings and kites, convertables, no tech, no rules, no protesting, no cry baybies, mean looking machines.
And I have to travel thousands of miles to do so, but thats' OK.

AB195. ISMA is a great group along with HOSS. Not to big on the Main Event but it is personal. LOL When you are up here will you see any MSA shows? (Midwest Supermodified Assoc) Alot of these guys run the ISMA shows in Ohio. You must be coming to the Ohio area because Main Event runs mainly Ohio to. I am the Race Director of MSA now. And you are right. They go through tech every race. Not as much whinning either. And here is the big thing. After the race they do party. Most of the drivers stick around and drink beer and have fun. Imagine that!!! Drivers drinking beer and having fun together AFTER the race. Also, HOSS has always been one of my favs. Tony Swanson runs HOSS and does a great job. Well if you want to come to a MSA show let me know.

you see, this is why racing isn't successful in Florida. all these negative attitudes. why can't you think positive?

ooops, A-dale put 106 cars in the pits for the 4-25 weekend.

I do love those ISMA supermodifieds also but there is plenty of good racing here in Florida in my opinion.

I remember the super modifieds coming to NSS back in the old days . You might think you've seen the ultimate circle track car , but if you haven't seen a New York or Ohio super modified , you haven't seen the ultimate yet . I often wonder why those cars don't come ( or aren't invited ) to Speedweeks at NSS anymore .
Circle track cars that DON'T run 8 inch treaded tires , 2 barrel carbs , spec motors , and do ALLOW WINGS ! Thats just crazy talk .

They ran the ISMA Supermodifieds at the paved Volusia track not all that long ago, and they were turning like 12-second laps.

I remember when they had a Winter tour, at Palm Beach, Hollywood, and Hialeah. Then after Holllywood and Palm Beach closed, they went to Sunshine, and I'm not real sure, but I think they might've run a few shows at Bradenton.

AB195, if you're headin' to Wisconsin/Illinois, try and get to Slinger, Madison, and the Dells in Wisconsin, and definitely get to Rockford in Illinois. Slinger's got to be the quickest high-banked track anywhere - a tight quarter-mile banked at like 35 degrees...LOL...I think the track record for a (Super) Late Model type car is like 9 seconds...

I don't remember the super modifieds coming to NSS but maybe before my time. I do remember them at VSP and what a show they put on. I don't know why they are not invited down for speedweeks I would think that the money would probally have something to do with it. I would also like to see outlaw super lates at NSS but then again probally another money thing.

The Supers ran at NSS in the early-mid seventies... Tony Lavati set the all-time track record in qualifying there driving his RE Super... That record has never been touched... There were some horrible wrecks there... Bill Knox was seriously hurt there trying to run his Sprint against the Supers... Also saw Jim Shampine flip the entire length of the front stretch and emerge totally unscathed... Clyde quit running them after that, thought they were just too dangerous...
The IMSA shows were great back in the late 70's - early 80's... The main shows were at Miami-Hollywood and Sunshine... NE Supers vs. the Florida Sprints... Had 56 cars at Sunshine one night... I have quite a few pix of those shows up on www.floridaracinghistory.com....
