  • Attention Open Wheel Modified Drivers ! Joslin Memorial returns to Orlando Speedworld

Friday Night June 19th, Rick Bristol has brought back the Joslin Memorial Modified 50 to honor his friend Jerry Joslin and his Father Dick Joslin. The race will be 50 laps and will pay a minmum of $1,000 to win ! Sponsors are being sought and the purse will be updated and put out before the race.

We are selling laps for $20 each. So far Rick Bristol and Kim Brown have purchased 2 laps each, who will join the crowd. Laps 4, 24, 30 and 50 are sold. If you want to sponsor a lap call Rick. If you want to sponsor an award such as 1/2 way leader, fast qualifier, hard charger, hard luck or what ever simply call Rick and send in your money. It can be cash, certificates what ever.

More information and maybe a special twist to the race will be announced in the coming weeks !

If you want to sponsor this race, finishing positions call Rick !

" I am happy that Robert allowed us to bring this special event back. Jerry was a great friend and he put alot into this race when he did it for his dad. I want to make it a fun, honoring event in memory of my friend Jerry. I hope all the Modified guys will come race with us". Stated Rick

Citrus, Auburndale, NSS do not have Modifieds on their schedules for that weekend so come on over and join us for this great event !

Rick , just a tip here . You can't possibly hope to make it in the race track business if you schedule your races after making sure that no one else is running the same cars on the same night . All that sort of thing will get you is full fields of race cars and fans in the stands .

Just to answer your comments !

          Ron,

We undertand it is tough on Friday nights, it is for us who work too ! Sunday racing does not work, Saturday nights we would be racing against ourselves at NSS. I know this does not work for everyone, but for special races, people can usually plan to be here. If you can run we would love to have you.

With the tracks mentioned not running Modifieds on Saturday night it gives this race the highlight of the weekend, so guys can make arrangements, come run this race and then relax on Saturday night !

We are going to do all we can to try to cooperate with the other tracks and schedule properly. We all need to try to work together for the betterment of racing !

          Thanks,
          Rick

Why do "Sundays not work"? It works well at many places around the country, and even just up the road at Volusia. I've been to plenty of Sunday shows that didn't have a problem with cars or fans.

Oh no.....Frass and I may disagree again !

Sir, I have seen NSS, Orlando, Sunshine try Sunday shows.......they were not very successful at all. DeSoto ran a couple of Sunday shows and if you ask they were not there best either. Could maybe one big deal a year work on Sunday's maybe....but around here the history has not been good. Jerry I know there is parts of the country that it does work...frankly there is some parts of the country that you could run every night of the week and maybe be successful. I am just saying that as a whole it has not worked around here. So I agree with you, about it working please, but I just have not seen it around here. So anyways ....there you have it !

And we had come to such a great place in our relationship.....haha

I would also like to see it on a Saturday night I think the car count would be a lot better but I also understand that NSS runs on Saturday night and I guess you would pull from the crowd that shows up at NSS. I would like to also see it on treaded tires but not going to see that either that was killed last year. I can only hope that FASCAR takes the time to call any modifieds drivers that they have numbers for and invite them to come.

This goes back to the thread on why Friday racing won't work . ANY night of the week racing will work . Also Sunday afternoons . Tracks that have switchtched from Saturdays to some other day , have usually not waited long enough to generate interest in the new race night . They panic and switch back . As we have covered on this board before , there is stock car racing going on every night of the week somewhere in the US . Any night can work anywhere . It just has to be promoted , and be interesting enough to bring the fans out .

                    Rick B....

F-118... I've seen succesfull Sunday shows at Volusia (in '09 as a matter of fact), Desoto, East Bay, Citrus, and I'm sure several others. It CAN be done. Just because those tracks/promoters/planning didn't quite work out in the cases you're mentioning, I still 100% believe that it CAN work.

                    It HAS worked.

You cannot convince me that it's a foolish idea!

Heres another one to think about . I believe it was Putnam that ran on Saturday afternoons at the beginning of the year . The cars and fans showed up , some said they liked it better than Saturday night .
Give the racers and the fans a reason to show up , and they'll be there no matter when you open the gates .

Sunday afternoon in June/July/August? It's hot enough at night out there during those months. Not to mention afternoon thunder storms and lighting during the rainy season (July/August). Maybe on a one time big special it may work, but not on a regular basis. Been there when they did run a special and it didn't pull any people. Again just TOO HOT!
