$100 Bounty Friday at Orlando All Star Superstock 50 on Team Cuddy !

Hi Rick,
The whole point was to stir the pot a little bit and enjoy a good race. I will say that it was a heck of a finish, and it has been a while since I've been watching anything that made me whoop and holler, but that 50 lapper did. Say what you will about the Cuddys, but they have heart. Billy drove HARD to go from the back to the front two times.
I am not unhappy about the result. Its not enough to get wound up about. I was a little surprised when you announced that it would be paid if there was mechanical failure; that is different from the way other bounties have worked in the past, but I that is what you posted ahead of time so I didn't worry about it. I do think the 64 got taken out when he got in front, but my role was as a spectator, how can I fuss about anything? Now if I was driving and that happened...
A question for Daniel: who exactly did Billy "take out"? He did plenty of passing, so please explain who he took out along the way. Did he also take himself out by backing into the car behind? We agree on one thing, it was a shame to see some good cars torn up like 16 and 99.

Other then the torn up cars that was one of the better superstock races that I have seen. Maybe a couple of questionable phantom calls but still a lot of fun to watch. I personally dont know the Cuddys but have parked next to them a time or two when I was racing my superstock. I do know that they are the type to help out anyone they can. They support the track week in and week out. On the track they are aggressive and for the most part clean. I have seen them pass on the outside more then anybody I know, I have also seen them torn down more then anybody and when they were found illegal they didn't bitch and moan like some others.
On another note, its too bad more of the Nss cars didnt come out and try to prove themselves on a DRIVING track.

Todd did you see this post that Rick Bristol put up before the race on Friday and going by this there are several reasons why the bounty should of been paid.
yes, this was posted before the race. no, i wasn't really aware of it because i was following the thread where Rex originally decided to do this.
what does that have to do with it directly contradicting the way it was posted the first time or the way Rex stated it when he offered to put the money up?
Chad the winner of the bounty had nothing to do with the wreck that took out the 64 car, so once again why should he be penalized for being able to avoid the wrecks all night long.
i suppose you're going to tell me that if Bobby had won, he would have been penalized because he wasn't paid the bounty money for beating Billy? after all, he would have "beaten a Cuddy".
it's not a penalty to fail to collect the money, it's a reward for accomplishing a specific extra objective. that's like not completing the extra credit on a test and then crying because you "only" got a 100% score. you want the extra credit, you do the extra work.
Rex could have offered money for any driver doing a barrel roll over the top of another car in turn 3/4 ( hey look, it's a bird, it's a plane, it's Jim Erb! ). if it happens in turn 1/2, he doesn't have to pay out. if you go end over end instead of barrel rolling over another car, he doesn't have to pay out. it's his money, it should be his terms.
a bonus was offered "to beat the Cuddy's". this did not happen. i blame this whole issue on how sad the situation is down here, hardly anybody is even familiar with how a "bounty" is supposed to work anymore. a "bounty" is a bonus above and beyond the normal purse for beating the local hot shoe. with a normal bounty, it goes up every week that it doesn't get collected. so if Billy and Bobby won every race for two months, you could be talking a fairly decent sized pile of money for whoever wound up giving them what for. could you imagine a +$1000 payout for a normal no-entry weekly Super Stock race? do you think that might pull in some racers from other tracks? do you think Jack and Rob and CeeCee might start losing their minds on IFR? do you think some of the Saturday night tracks might start encouraging their drivers to go get that easy money from those no-drivin schmucks at OSW?
naaaaahhh, that's just crazy talk.
the purpose of a "bounty" is twofold:- it is supposed to put on a *show* for the fans. note that the bounty being paid out is not a requirement for the show.
- it is supposed to draw in good drivers from other tracks but you don't want people coming in and just wrecking the hell out of your local guy. our local guys can wreck the hell out of themselves just fine, thank you very much.
you also don't call it a *show* if the bounty driver spins a bearing on lap 2 of the feature. i will say, you got your show Friday night though.
this is almost as bad as Volusia trying to run an enduro and telling all the drivers at the meeting that they are going to be using yellow flags.
Todd on a lighter note you've almost hit 1000 post, will KARNAC give you a cookie when you hit that point.
i think i get banned when i get to 1000 posts. they're tired of seeing the same guy win all the time.
Mr McCreary once again stirring the pot !
yes, because i couldn't possibly have anything useful to say. me and my darn negative attitude.
that way Mr. McCreary is not speaking for you.
let me be clear, I am not pretending to speak for Rex. he's a big boy who can speak for himself.
the only reason you got this money was because i was goofing on Rex in the first place, that's my interest in this deal.
The bounty was made clear on Karnac with my post
the mid-season tire rule change was "made clear on Karnac" last year as well. that didn't make anybody happy either.
there's a very basic concept that's not getting picked up on here. just because you CAN change the rules at your whim doesn't mean that you should or that it's a good idea.
what's the story about the Big race? What happened?
15 cars started, 6 finished. three or four fell out with mechanical failures, most of the rest of the DNF's got fairly impressive wrecks. which is great for Friday's show but maybe not so good for next weeks.
at the 25 lap intermission, Billy drew the "leader only to the back" envelope. 52-Bobby Cuddy had been 2nd so he restarted in the lead and then fell out smoking badly with transmission failure about lap 35.
i think it was on this restart Billy had gotten back to 5th. coming down the backstretch he ducked under 16-David Gould and got fully along side him to make it three wide going into turn 3. needless to say, there was a bit of bumping and banging and one of them hopped a tire. 99x-Jim Erb ( imitating Carl Edwards right down to the car number ) came into the corner broadside trying not to get into the mess. some other mid-pack car came in and hit Erb square under the driver side door and it was here that Erb barrel rolled completely over the top of the other car. to finish it all off, when Jim came to rest he had an engine fire. Jim told me the wreck itself wasn't bad but he got kind of nervous looking out his window net and seeing the whole pack coming at him.
Cuddy got put to the back again here.
in the last 10 laps of the race, 64-Billy Cuddy had gotten back to 3rd and 77-Justin Reynolds and 51-Butch Herdegen were running one-two. between the laps winding down and Billy showing up in his rear view Butch got a little excitable and fendered Justin getting down into turn 3. this got both Butch and Justin way out of shape and they both washed up. Billy made the pass on Butch to 2nd in the middle of the corner, thought about going high coming out of 4 but then Justin caught the car and kind of juked towards the wall so Billy went low instead and got fully along side of him going down the front stretch.
Billy had been running a little loose all night and slipped up the track into Justin in the center of 1/2. this got Justin out of shape again and he hooked Billy in the RR quarter ( this is what i'm getting from Billy ). Billy didn't hit the wall but he was all over the track on the back stretch at this point and Butch ran over him, taking off Billy's LR wheel and smashing the hell out of the front of Butch's car.
this left Justin as the only "fast" car on the track but he got put to the back ( 6th place ) for the restart. Justin made it back to beside 1-Chad Pierce as the checker fell. one more lap and Justin probably would have had the win.
Chad collected all of the bonuses.
A question for Daniel: who exactly did Billy "take out"?
he's talking about the three wide into turn 3 deal. i was running a stop watch all night so i wasn't watching the racing as closely as i could have been.
some people have told me Billy was on the Bandolero track trying to make that pass, other people have told me that Billy ran down onto the Bando track trying to stay off of Gould.
from what i saw, it looked like Billy was way past Gould's door entering turn 3 ( which means Billy should have the spot ) but when you're three wide on a restart the guy on the outside doesn't always find out about these things until he's in the wall.
i thought, given how much time was left and how far forward Billy was, that it was a bit aggressive. i figured that once the field sorted out to single file in a lap or two that Billy would have been running 3rd or 4th with ~13 laps to get to the front. Ron tells me he'd have done the same as Billy except that he wouldn't have gone to the Bando track trying to stay off of Gould.Last edited by Todd McCreary; 05-03-2009, 12:02 PM.Racers Supporting Racers - for all your Vero Beach area automotive repair needs:

Well it looked to me like the 64 was under the 16 to me and drove down to the bando track to keep from getting hit by the 16 that was coming down but I'm hoping its on the video I fell bad for jim erb he had to start in the rear and was running top 5 only to get takin out by someone elses mess. I'm all about a show. For the fans and glad they liked it but let all be thankful nobody was hurt

50 lapper
I watch the race recorded by Gordon Motorsports. 51-Butch Herdegen came down on the red 16, as 16 came down to avoid hitting him the 64 had made a move under him in witch he had the spot. 99x of Erb was rearend by 2x that pushed him up and over the 16

It was a wacky race indeed... BUT HERE IS THE BEST THING: We had many people in the stands that had never been to the track before... They were going nuts (kids too)... They really got behind Billy Cuddy and were cheering like crazy for him... he said he could hear them from inside the car... Maybe, just maybe, some of those scouts and their parents will come back out BEFORE the next scout night!!
On another note, congrats to John Bennett for picking up the bonus as the highest finishing Speedworld regular who has not won a feature... John is at the track every week and put some recent bad luck behind him with a great third place finish... My 50 bucks couldn't have gone to a nicer guy...

What a race, thats got to be one of the funnest races I've ever been a part of. I think a regular 50 lapper would be boring to me now. The dice roll was a great idea even though I'm the one that went to the back. Daniel as far as me taking out a couple of cars, you need to watch the video, I was under Doug from turn 2 all the way down the back stretch and he turned down on me. It's clear on the video I was past his rear quarter and at his door. When I pasted Justin for the lead for the 2nd time he got loose coming out of 2 hit me in the right rear which caused me to spin then the 51 went low and ran into me. Both wrecks were just racing incidents that nobody did on purpose or from being careless and wreckless it was just hard racing and it goes like that sometimes. I'm gonna try to post the video on here so everybody can see what we put up with from daniel every week. Every week we are either cheating or wrecking somebody and I'm tired of hearing it. When you see the video you will see how wrong he was. If you think we are cheating bring your four hundred dollars and we will pull our motor apart, our motor guy will put it back together for that four hundred dollars we get from you. So put your money up and prove that we're cheating or shut up.

i watched the video as well, the 64 did nothing wrong...looked like some hard racing to me when the 51 was coming down on the 16 he had no where to go cuz the 64 ws already there and (not on the bando track) the 16 got on the brakes.. the 99 was trying to slowing down when the 2 drove right under him sending the 99 over the 16.hell if the 16 didnt slow down like he did the 51 would have took out all the cars just hard racing but the video shows nothing but good racing.hope to see another 50 lapper soon that was fun watch
