  • Friday Night Racing--

We received an invition to my neice' wedding in mid-June, so we're planning a 3-day weekend to Janesvelle, Wisconsin. Searched the areas of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin for local raceways to catch while I'm up there, and spotted 9 nearby raceways ot attend. Here's the kicker; 7 of those 9 raceways race on Friday night, which is perfect for a Saturday night wedding. I hadn't realized that Friday night was the big race night in that part of the midwest.
Then a Sunday afternoon ballgame at Wrigley Field for a Cubs game.

Sounds like Saturday and Sunday will be a waste of time.

I used to live in Madison and went to what is now The Madison International speedway, http://www.madisoninternationalspeedway.com/. It's a paved 1/2 with a 1/3/ inside. I haven't been there in years but just checked and they are still on Friday nights. billy

To mention only a few Raceways, in no particular order:

          Lafayette County
          Lake Geneva
          Madison Int'l
          Blackhawk Farms
          Grundy County
          Rockford
          Route 66
          Sycamore

I am sure to land at one of them.

havent been to all of em, but i thought lake geneva closed, and that rockford ran on saturday. grundy is a funky little track, good midget racing when they are in town.

dude, Sunday night at Slinger. although that is quite a drive from Janesville / Chicago ( NW of Milwaukee ) . if you can make it though, i about garuantee it will be worth your while. why not watch a Brewers game on Sunday and make it a double header with Slinger that night? 1/4 mile with a higher bank than Daytona. and they pass in the high groove.

Madison never impressed me much. lazy show, low car count. being a 1/2 mile track, low car count is a really bad thing.

Jefferson is a nice little family track that keeps things mixed up and moving nicely. only problem is there is a major bump in the bottom groove in turn four which makes it really hard to get any passing done. the rest of the track, the high groove is clearly slower but in turn 4 the car on the bottom loses so much time that they'll spend 4 or 5 laps going back and forth without making any progress. the whole field will pack up two wide with nobody able to go anywhere. you can bring your own chairs/blankets and sit up on the grass above turns 1 and 2 and see just fine.

Columbus is, erm, pretty much a local deal. it's okay but they could run their show much better than they do. not something i'd go out of my way for.

i never did watch the midget racing in Sun Prairie. and that's where i was living. my own fault.

i hear good things about Rockford, IL but i never went to that either.

gosh, i wonder if a track can be successful on Friday night?

You all must be kidding. We all here in Florida know that Fridays could never work... or Sundays, Holidays or mid-week shows!

What the Hell are those thousands of people thinking?

Did you know that Columbia Speedway in S.C. raced to a PACKED HOUSE on Thursday nights. That way the little know drivers like Ralph Earnhardt, Buddy Baker, and some guy Named Petty could come down and race.

I have to agree with Todd... Do a show on Friday night... catch the wedding on Saturday... (sorry to hear about your loss...) LMAO.... then catch Slinger on Sunday.... You won't regret a thing... Plus you won't notice the packed stands and/or the packed pits, etc... You gotta remember them damn Northeners can't do anything right.... ROFLMFAO....

Have a great time and enjoy yourself... Actually if you were there longer, we could probably find you a couple more nights shows to go too if you really wanted too....

Have a great time and enjoy yourself...

                    Have a great day all...
