  • Hard Goodyear and Hoosier Tires.

I was asked about the hard tires we ran up north and I got some numbers. They are both a grooved 10 inch slick that was run on late models in Ohio. The Hoosier was a number 970 and ran the same tire on left and right. Ran those tires and they stayed with-in a tenth for at least 8 weeks. The Goodyear was actually a little harder and they ran those for they think 11 or 12 weeks. The numbers on the Goodyear was 1677 on the left and 1678 on the right, they where a 300 series tire. Both of these tires were run at tracks that ran fast dashes , heats and 30 lap features each week. I really think a tire like this would even out the field and let a lot more cars run being they could be competitive and wouldn't have to buy tires every week... Rick

Thank you for the info . Now lets see if track owners are paying attention . And even if they aren't , it might be time for racers to take this into their own hands and demand that tracks do something to drop the cost of tires . NOW .

      Rick,
The numbers changed on the goodyears. Not sure what new number is. Rick I believe your son ran a set for half the year. The 1677 and 1678 where the best tire. Hocky pucks. Great tire if you run a combo of motors. MMS in 2006 had a 27 car avg per race and ran 16 races. Avg tires bought per team for the year was 7 tires. How much savings was this to the racer???

Thanks Chris, I was hoping you would be around and post. A lot of these guys think I talking B.S. but you know the truth. For you that don't know Chris is the guy that ran the show up at Mansfield Speedway, where these rules and tires were run. I hope some of the promotors here will check these tires out.....Rick----chassisdude

If anyone knows the new numbers for the Goodyears , please post them . These might be the tires that Mike Bresnahan was talking about testing .

Hard to believe that no track owners have shown an interest in this info . Okay John S , Robert Hart , Mike Reed , Bobby " hey look at me , look at me "Diehl , Tony Parker , Tim Bryant , and any other track owner interested in giving the racers a break . Heres your chance .
The tire issue isn't going to make or break racing by itself , but its one issue that needs to be dealt with , not ignored .

              got question for you

those tracks up north how long has it been since they have been repaved because if the tracks have not been worked on in 15 -20 years it's going be lot fun getting a bite off corner and on some of these one grove race tracks when you drive off in corner looking tru your rear window it's gonna hurt

me i want a tire that works and last cause tires are cheaper than cars
