  • Late Model Rules

I have to wonder about these. About a year to two years ago there was a big debate about LM rules and motors. SPEC motors was going to save the world. I was one of the biggest protesters against this. I have preached for years open rule up and control with weight and tires. Built motor, spec motor, crate motor who cares? Control what carb is run and weight and tires. It worked up North. When I left South Ga. it was said I was nuts and that would never work. Flordia mentality at the time previaled. SPEC motors. NOW cmp and sgmp and whole lot of tracks looking at what I was saying. I believe Bobby is doing it at ccmp. And its working isn't it? Fans are important no doubt. But as a owner or promotor drivers are more important. Without them you will have no fans. I see where Jane "accidentaly" deleted the whole thred on Don. I'm not a Don fan but in some ways I feel for him. In some I don't. Don was a firm believer in the SPEC motor. Now I see his mind is changing. Then people have come in here to remind him of some of the stunts he has pulled or things he has said. Ok maybe he had it coming. Enough is enough. I honestly believe Don has seen a whole other side of this racing thing. I know he has been in it for years and should have seen it all. Now he owns and runs a track all on his own. It will make you see things different sometimes. Bygons be bygons what I think. He made some mistakes and said some dumb things. BIG DEAL. It is in past. We all have done stupid crap in past and said things that come back and haunt us. FORGIVE THE MAN SOME. Try this new way. If you don't like Don to point you won't support him then don't. The whole cutthroating thing needs to stop. Fans come on here and read. It isn't just Don they look at. They look at poster and racing as a cut throat industry in general. Like I say I am not a Don fan but I am tired of hearing how Don said this and Don told me this years ago. Or Don favors people. Try the new rules it will work. If not at Don's then somewhere else. But please get and stay off soapbox.

Ps. Jane, you stuck up for Don pretty thick in that thread. I would have more respect for you if you just said you deleted it and that was it. I aint buying that it happened by accident. Its happened here to many times.

I promise on my grandson, I did it by accident. I was editing one of the posts and thought I hit edit and hit delete by accident. I had no intention of deleting the thread because there were valid points and everyone has a right to speak out. It was the one thread by backdoorbob that was more of a personal attack on Don saying he was getting rich off racing and tires and he was solely responsible for drivers not coming back to Orlando or New Smyrna because of tires. I know for a fact that he is not getting rich on Columbia or tires and he and Sandy work very hard to make ends meet just like you and me. I did write Sandy right away and told her that I accidentally deleted her thread and told her to repost it. In fact, I will repost it now on your thread.
But I wanted everyone to know that I did it and not to blame anyone but me but it was an honest mistake on my behalf. So you can believe me or not, but it was not done on purpose however I did delete the thread on purpose done by backdoorbob with the same post that I was editing on Sandy's post. I don't believe in personal attacks and like Rick Williamson said, I have never been in tech with Don so I don't know about that. But I do know that he does care about racing and yes I am sure he has said things and done things that people don't like. But like you said, the past is the past and we need to get over it. But just for you, here is the original post from Sandy for Don.

The state of survival is at hand. If you look at the rules and the schedules for the late models today their survival is bleak. All of my racing life this is where my heart has been. Whether right or not, my goal has been to get to watch the best drivers in this division compete. It is time for all the cars and fans to support this great sport or you will miss it when it is gone. Get off the couch and hear the roar, smell and fuel of real short track racing. Tracks cannot continue to run these races at a loss forever. I tried to put a rule package together so all the cars could compete together. We spent enough time and testing to make it fair for all cars.

Our extended lap race was 4/4/09 with 11 cars? It was the most competitive Late Model race I have seen in years. Four lead changes, great side-by-side racing and after the race the top 3 were doing high fives in the tech area. You don’t see drivers act like this at most of the races. This is what we need more of at the races…something we can sell to the fans and the kids. After some thought I went to the computer (which is something I should never do) to spill the beans…so here GOES.

SATURDAY NIGHT MAY 9TH COLUMBIA MOTORSPORTS PARK WILL DO THE DON’S LATE MODEL 100…$2,000 TO WIN…100 LAPS, YELLOWS COUNT WITH LAST 10 UNDER GREEN. FREE ENTRY FEE, FREE PARKING, FREE CAMPING AND FREE PRACTICE SATURDAY MORNING. COME EARLY STAY LATE. ANYONE NOT HAVING FUN WILL BE DQED.

BY THE WAY BOBBY BUCKS CAN BE USED FOR PARKING OR ENTRY. 270 MILES AWAY SO IT SHOULD NOT MATTER (YOU TOLD SANDY HOW FAR).

CALLING ALL FANS…IT IS TIME TO SUPPORT THE LATE MODELS OR WE COULD LOOSE THEM. NOW LET THE CIRCUS BEGIN…HURRY, HURRY, HURRY SEE THE BEARDED LADY…SHE WALKS AND TALKS AND CRAWLS ON HER BELLY LIKE A REPTILE…oops it’s Don tripped in the tech area.

I want to especially thank the drivers that were there for the last race. Hope they all can make this one.

did you ever think about this

you say some thing about some one cause you heard some one else say some thing about them like telling a joke about a blond . and about the second time the joke is told the blond is a red head and she was not in a bar she was in a boat fishing with a a curtain rod not a fishing pole

what i'm getting at is this before there was computers were you could talk bull crap about some promoter that probably saved your life cause he would not let you race because your seat belts were 10 years old

or you got caught cheating not he is the most worthless piece of crap that ever tried to run a race track

in the fifty five years i have been racing i guess i probably know as many drivers promoters and owners as any one from as far south as medely florida to bangor maine tru new york new jersey to calfornia

and i find it very hard for all of them to please ever body but there is one owner promoter that stands out more than most that cares about the racer that gets down and gets his hands dirty and i never seen any one fight as hard to get a track open as don neron did for golden gate and i watched him work at lakeland track from daylight to way past dark at old track he ain't scared to get in the trenches and get dirty so if you got some to say bad about him you need to know him he has helped a lot of drivers

Rick - I didn't mean for you to go whatever. Sorry sweetie, I hate that one explanation anymore since my kids over use it. I just added that I don't know how you feel since I have never been in tech with Don but I didn't mean to hurt your feelings or upset you. And I did accidentally delete that thread when I went to edit one post. It had nothing to do with what you wrote at all.

Have a good Monday and it looks like we may get some more much needed rain in Brevard. I know my grass would appreciate it and my few plants still alive.

Not sure if thats at me or Don? Maybe both? LOL

not accusing anybody of anything. just saw a number the other day that psycho / sociopathy may be as common as 4% of the population.

you say that doesn't sound like much? think of it this way: it's likely that 1 in every 25 people that you meet in your daily life is a higher functioning ( non-violent ) psycho / sociopath. for most of us, that's probably interacting with at least one of these people every day. i know exactly who Jane would pick for her closest sociopath ... her daughter in law.

so if you meet somebody who demonstrates a number of these characteristics:

                Factor1: Aggressive narcissism
                1. Glibness/superficial charm
                2. Grandiose sense of self-worth
                3. Pathological lying
                4. Cunning/manipulative
                5. Lack of remorse or guilt
                6. Shallow
                7. Callous/lack of empathy
                8. Failure to accept responsibility for own actions

                Factor2: Socially deviant lifestyle
                1. Need for stimulation/proneness to boredom
                2. Parasitic lifestyle
                3. Poor behavioral control
                4. Promiscuous sexual behavior
                5. Lack of realistic, long-term goals
                6. Impulsivity
                7. Irresponsibility

                ...

The manipulative skills of some of the others are valued for providing audacious leadership.[24] It is argued psychopathy is adaptive in a highly competitive environment, because it gets results for both the individual and the corporations[25][26][27] or, often small political sects they represent.[28] However, these individuals will often cause long-term harm, both to their co-workers and the organization as a whole, due to their manipulative, deceitful, abusive, and often fraudulent behaviour.[29]

you might want to reconsider your estimation of what you're dealing with.

you might also want to ask, "how many of these clowns on Wall Street fit this profile?"

The state of survival is at hand. If you look at the rules and the schedules for the late models today their survival is bleak.

then the rules or enforcement or promotion ( or some combination of all three ) needs to change in order to draw more racers to the track and in order for there to be a show for the fans to see.

and i think you need to be more specific about which late models you're talking about Jane. you guys seem to be pulling decent fields of Late Models at Volusia. right?
