  • Finish Las Vaegas Trip--

So, at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, I found that sitting at a dozon or so different places was the way to go. It was difficult to do, as it was just a tad-shy of selling out, standing room only--go figure.
I stood at a dozon place to witness the Race.
Different crowd altoghether from the local Raceway of Daytona. Didn't seem at all seem like the crowd I had witnessed from down here. Heavy, heavy partiers from all around, like Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Oregan.
Not at all singleing them out for any reason whatsoever, merely an observation on my part. It's all good.
Great facility, hands down! Ever been there? It sure beats Daytona.
The next Saturday night, did a road trip to Mohave Valley Raceway for thier opening 2009 show, on the 1/3 mile dirt Raceway; a two hour trip south over to Arizona, across the Colorado River, into and through Bullhead City, which is is like a smaller version, a Las Vegas Light. Was going to try to escape the folks and get away for a spell, however Mom wanted to go with me......I couldn't argue, I was sleeping at their house and driving their car, and eating their food (I filled their 'fridge up).
So, Mom was my date, and a good sport she was, navigated us with road maps to the far-away Raceway, stopping for the necessary stops and coffee.
Mohave Valley Raceway, fine facility it is--IMCA Mods, Sportstocks, Mini-Stocks, and a couple of other classes.
It was 49 degrees, however it was not the same as here in Florida, I had only a sweatshirt on me, Mom was a little bit colder--we drank hot coffee and ate hot popcorn--------
    --and thats OK with me.
Good sport she was, we stayed almost until the last feature race was over, and we took our two hour trip back home through the desert, at 10:30 at night, got home at 1:00 AM time difference minus 1 hour.

You know, it's funny, at 4:30 AM my phone would start ringing off the hook, being that it was 7:30 AM Florida time, and there was nothing I could do except answere it and be pleasant about it.

Mohave Valley Raceway is on an Indian Reservation in Arizona, and the have a Spring and Fall version of their Programs; they stop racing in the middle months, like June July and August.
Was told it's just too darn hot. No dice.
So, great week it was in the Desert, and Dad is OK.
(also caugh the Cubs spring training game at Cashman Field an Wed.)

    Hey Roger......

I was out there right after Earnhart died in 2001. It's a great track,LV ain't bad either, and I remember during the cautions we would watch all the jets take off and land at the Air Force base next to the track. Toward the end of the race we watched it snow on the mountain tops near the track, but it was a warm day in the valley.

You are right Sir Roger, it's a great place and lots of friendly people.

RIP Jack Smith and Kim Brown. Many thanks for all you have done for our sport.

      Hey AB...

Now is it my eyes or did you commit one of the Short Track sins as a Grandstander!... No alternative beverages being consumed while in the grandstands at a track... Shame on you man..

      ROFLMAO...

Great to hear that you had a good trip and enjoyed your parents...

      Have a great day...

Yes, Duane, sometimes an alternative beverage is in play. Thats's cool. Wanted a Sud or Six, but I was with my Mom and all, she's 77. Had to maintain--long drive home, not like Speedweek at Smyrna, at the Reunion, where I can camp out and sleep it off.
Also, the big series of the night, next to the IMCA Mods, was the open wheel Dwarf Cars. A big full fild of 3 heat races, a consi, and a feature. Man oh man, these cars are so much faster than the Legend Cars we witness down here, and around.
Again, it seemed really abnormal to me, that the local Raceways shut down in the hot months, have a Spring and a Fall program, with a small Winter Series program.
Also, the dirt surface is different, obviously. Also saw an awful lot of local teenagers and such from the local Indian Reservation High School out at the races, tons of them actually. Different scene altogether. It was all good.
