  • What Do Jack Duffy and Buzzie Reutimann Have In Common?

Jack Duffy (yes, THAT Jack Duffy) raced this coupe that was bought from Buzzie Reutimann in the 1974 Modified race at Daytona... Despite an opening lap tangle with #0 Paul Newman (yes THAT Paul Newman) and running out of gas once, he was still running at the finish...

In the last Coupe to ever race at Daytona.....

As for Newman, he entered the race as "P.L. Newman", so as not to attract attention to himself as a celebrity. He wanted to be "just another racer", not a movie star!

Buzzie was also in this same race, with a very sharp looking, nearly full-bodied Vega.

Bobby Allison, if I recall correctly, won this race in a AMC Hornet!

P.S. - The leader board in the background shows the top 5 as:

    6 Maynard Troyer
    1 Ray Hendrick
    26 Satch Worley
    61 Richie Evans
    99 Geoff Bodine

Great pics!!! I race with Mr. Duffy and I have to say....he is a LEGEND. There is one of the old coupes that Duffy drove that has been restored back to the Dover Brakes car. I saw it in Va. ( for Dave's Funeral) It is the neatest car I have seen in awhile. Great pics, and come see Duffy race at CCMP on April 11
sigpicTurn right to go left...Racing as it was meant to be!

        No Jerry

Allison drove a full bodied Nova or Ventura. I was there, they also had a IROC race with Porsche 911 s that Bobby Unser , Donahue and Revson ran in.It was good to see Buzzie win last saturday too.
