Five Flags improved surface!!!

The grinding at Five Flags has made a substantial improvement in the speeds,racing and tire wear! There is now a solid 2nd groove. Qualifying speeds have been about 4/10 faster and the drop off in speeds has been drastically reduced after running long runs. The feedback has been nothing but positive and this should make for even better racing at the historic race track!!!

Snowball or anybody else in the know: I am trying to get more info on the process used and contact info for the contractor. I work at a track in need of the same help. Any info is appreciated (I tried contacting directly but haven't gotten anyone yet).

Do you know why they worked on the surface? It has nothing to do with the snowball derby....they did it because our electric cars are racing there on 4-18!

From a fans perspective, the tire wear made the race more interesting. I hope the new surface is just as good for the race. I know the drivers will appreciate the tire $$ they will save.

The track hasn't lost its character at all, but the results have been beyond expectations! After 100 laps in the ASA race the times were still around a 17.8 after the pole was right at a 16.8. In the past, the times would have fallen into the 19s! Big difference! there was also alot of side by side racing without the driver in the 2nd groove wearing his tires out! I'm excited to see what the Super Latemodels will run on the 10th. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 16.2 or 16.3! As far as the contractor goes, i don't know, but you can contact the speedway at 850-944-8400 and ask for Tim Bryant. If he isn't there, he will return your call.
