  • Martinsville has the best hot dogs in racing, right?

so how much do they want for one of these masterpieces? $2.

let me say that again, a main food item at a Nascar Sprint Cup race is priced at TWO DOLLARS. Martinsville expects to sell ~50,000 this weekend.

how much does your track want for a hot dog?

Ocala does indeed have good hot dogs . So did Putnam as i recall . The best are at a little track in the Panhandle called Southern Raceway . I was there once a few years ago , and their hot dogs , and for that matter all of their concession food was the best i've had at any track .

Todd does bring up an excellent point though . We can all guess how much money the tracks pay for their hot dogs . So how much profit are they making ? How much on a Coke or fries ? And i'm sure Martinsville would probably sell 100,000 hot dogs or more during this Weekend , far more if the Friday and Saturday shows hadn't been rained out .
No matter what the actual profit margin actually is , the profit on 50 or 100 thousand of them is pretty hefty money . So how much must Daytona be making on the same hot dogs after pricing them at 4 and 5 dollars each . I imagine they sell way over a million of them during the entire speedweeks .

            Not defending the tracks

But when you say profit margin on a hot dog there is more to it than the cost of the hot dog. There is the guy to cook it, the clrk to sell it, the eletric to cook it, and on and on. Like I said I am not saying 4 dollars is a fair price because I am sure they can make plenty off 2 dollars but lets not just think it is the cost of the hotdog at maybe .50 cents or what ever it is and the rest is profit.

Allthough I am glad some of these places are giving us a break and bringthe cost down. Less is more in the long run a lot of the times.

              As OSF See's It

All the food at Ocala is Good, if they are in between races, I am between concession stands. The dogs are super (as that old guy JIMBO said).

BUT, no track that I have been could come close to the burgers they HAD at Putman a few years back. Heck if we got rained out, I didn't think it was a wasted trip as long as I got a hamburger before I left and DATS DA TRUTH.
Those burgers were huge, never frozen and pure beef... YUM YUM (If you ever had one, you will have to agree).

I won't speak badly about food at a certain track, but I experienced the worse yet just a very short time ago when I went to watch some figure 8 racing... the jury is still out on weather the food or the race was the worse.

Being a conasewer of hot dogs, I have to agree with Jimbo. The $3 Zuber dog with sourcrowt onions and mustard is a meal in its self. The best concession food I have ever had at a race track was in the 80's when Margi King/Nanny was the owner of Desoto. She had the concessions leased to the Phillippi creek Oyster bar. They had shrimp baskets, fish & chips. They had a Grouper sandwich that was to kill for. They also had Hamburgers and hot dogs, the usual track fare. All the food was good. Now CCMP has a Taco Salad that i get most every week. Thats really good. Bob...

At Daytona, They set up all the booths and then have non-profit organizations come in an run them. They give the organization that ran that booth 10% of the take. I worked a booth for almost 3 years and had a blast. Also got to see the races for free......The Booth???...Beer sales, The non-profit????......Now here's the kicker...........The Boy Scouts of America...LOL.. True story.

                      $$?

O.K., the hot dogs may be a good deal and good tasting and all that but how good is that bag of frozen water for ten bucks?
That better be some damned good tasting water!!
