We made the call at 3:15. Reason: a massive wall of moisture was aimed right at the track. Sometimes you win and some times you lose. Two things we don't do: send fans home after heats telling them it constitutes an event, and keep them in the bleachers until all hours of the night.

I gotta defend Mike on this one. Yeah, it stinks that we didn't get to go racing. But as he pointed out, he was putting everyone else FIRST in making his decisions as to whether to race or not. Would it have been preferable to make all of the teams travel to Ocala only to be sent home again? How about the fans? Would it be fair to get them there, let them get soaked, then send them home?

I saw the same radar images that Mike saw, and when he called me I knew why he made the choices that he made. And yes, I knew no matter how hard he tried to do the right thing by the racers, fans, and the speedway staff, that SOMEONE was going to take issue over it. Whether it turned out as planned or not, at least Mike Peters was attempting to think about the whole picture, and not just his wallet.

Rick, I got there at 3pm and it was blowin' hard. I left at 4pm and it was rainin'. After getting south of Ocala it was dry and not a drop at my house 31 miles away. Seems like it aimed straight at the track last night.
            Stands would have been empty.
I'm headed to Bronson with the car in a few minutes and it may be a short night there.

I hate that you all got rained out. But weatherman just had said nothing about rain till late Saturday night into Sunday morning. And we didn't get any here in Lakeland. So that's why I couldn't believe the races were called because of rain. I'm sure the call was the right thing to do. I've never liked getting to a track and having to turn around because of rain during the SSS races. And were glad when we would hear about the call before we left. To sit in the trailer for hours is no fun at all.

I personally hate to see the races called at such an early hour. BUT it was the rite call. I only live about 7 miles from the track and it rained here, on and off, until 9:30 last night. IF they would have been able to get the track into shape to race, it would have been 2-3 O'clock in the morning till the show would have been completed.........GOOD CALL MIKE!!!
