lets all take a long ride on a short bus.

I quit fishing because no one was standing at the docks handing out money when i got back, why did you quit racing?

I'm racing. Turns out the construction slowdown has left me with more time. I am doing a lot of the work myself instead of hiring it out. Turns out I am making about the same amount of money doing fewer jobs with less employee or subcontracted labor. It was hard spending $560.00 on 4 tires Saturday, but I've come to accept the fact that racing was, is and always will be expensive and track operators will never do anything to change this. I plan to run at least half the schedule this year. Running the complete season has become to much of a financial, physical and social drain.

Maybe it's time to think about moving down a class. Not trying to be smart, but if you want to race all season, that might be a way to go.

It's not a case of moving down divisions. Any division requires alot of time and $$$ to remain competitive. I just feel like I can show up at the track better prepared and better funded running a partial schedule. You still need 4 new tires every week if you are running a ministock.

Not on dirt!!! Sorry I had to say it.

Actually, I don't know you and I don't know your financial situation. Please don't take it like I was trying to judge you, cause I wasn't.
My personal opinion though is about 70% of drivers/owners run in the class above what they can afford. Myself, I would rather run in a class that I felt I could afford and be competitive for a win Than to have a car in a higher class just to say I have it.
Hell, I just want to race. I would rather run in a lower class every week, then to have to save so I could race in an upper division.

Old Style Racer 2 you just hit on a pet peeve of mine. I have never been able to figure out why racers almost always race outside their budget. Why anyone would build a car and complain about how much it costs to race is beyond me do all racers think it is cheap NOTHING IS CHEAP ANYMORE especially a hobby. I also can't figure out why anyone would go to the track week after week and get lapped time after time if you don't go to win why go? it still costs you money to just drive in circles with no chance to win drop down a class or two and be competitive.

Thank you but I think we are a dying breed. Now it's more like " I own a race car and you OWE me a win". God forgive anyone if they actually worked on there stuff and earned it!!.......Boneman excluded....LOL

Heres a question that was brought up by some friends in the pits Saturday night . If the rules across the state were re-written and strictly enforced ( yeah i know , race tracks cooperating ? But i can hope can't i ) so that there were NO Super Lates , NO high dollar modifieds , NO high dollar mini stocks , only much more stock versions ( like sportsman ) of those classes allowed at weekly shows , would the racers that run those classes quit racing ? Or would David Rogers , Wayne Anderson , Wayne Jefferson , Jerry Symons , and all of the others build cars to run in the much slower , much cheaper replacement classes ? And since the cars would be much less expensive to run , would those drivers race every weekend , thereby increasing car count and fan count ?
Would these drivers be willing to take a big step backwards in cars and prestige so that their racing would start to make financial sense again ? Not to mention putting some fun back into their racing .

AJ The guys you mentioned among many others are RACERS and i think they would race any class spec'ed as long as the had a place to do it.

As i pointed out in other threads true racers load their car and go, they don't call ahead for payout or how many laps or what time racing will be over.they just go.

The new generation way of thinking driver/owner is that of spoiled brats/adults who scream "we are the show and demand" etc.

The guys you mentioned would race if you lined up mopeds on the front stretch and told them the winner got a trophy and $50 i bet they'd mount up and go...........if that's all the had to race.
