Wow...
the toughest dude in racing who fears no one sitting with one of the gentlest kindest men around... wonder why? well awhile back it seems Don Rehm got in a really bad wreck and his face was litterally torn off... Gene Lasker ran to him and took his new white shirt off and wrapped Dons face so it would stay put and he stayed with him until the ambulance took off. if Gene hadnt done something to hold Dons face together his nose would have swollen and gone into his brain and killed him....that act of bravery is what kept Don alive with a still handsome face. sometimes we wonder how people from such different walks of life become entangled and love each other forever. we dont have to wonder about these two men. this was the first time i met Gene Lasker .... Don and I have known each other a few years and i feel priviledged... was an interesting interview. Not to mention Gene Lasker is one of the most famous dirt sprinters in the world! Don is the promoter of the Checkered Flag Sprint Car Series... you know... the one with the crazy flagman! (WILDCHILD)
Pics will follow.
Ross Chastain and Jeremy Gerstner and his wife dawn came to talk about their experiences in ASA.
Jeff Matthews... races Late Models and OWM
Rick and Susan Auriemma were there with their friend Bobby Rogers. Bobby talked about how he had to stop racing to take care of his family... but he told his wife when he hit 50 he was getting back in the firesuit. thats just what he did! Rick and Susan also presented Jack and the guys with a plaques thanking them for all they've done to promote racing. Also for helping promote the Mini Stock series.
and one of the highlights was seeing someone i didnt even recognize at first because i havent seen him for a few years and he grew up! always warm and smiling... SEAN BASS. so happy to see him!
if you look in the background of the pics, notice what an awesome job they did in the NEW cafeteria at Eastbay. it is beautiful and if we were royalty, we could not have been treated better. Thank you EASTBAY (Todd Hutto) for a wonderful night. Thank you Jack, Rick, and Bill for giving our drivers & promoters a few minutes of appreciation. and Thank you guests for sharing your stories and experiences. You are what this is all about.
Thank you to the staff who stayed late to make sure we had all we needed!
G~O~O~D N~I~G~H~T !!!
