  • Friday night's SLM race

Who is going to be at Orlando for the 100 lapper? I hate the fact that they are only having two big races all year so we really need to get the word out and pack the stands. And who do you think is going to win?
My vote is Rogers to continue his hot streak and Russell to be close behind.

    See you all Friday night!!!:

I'm going against my word, kind of, about never giving my money to OSW for another SLM race after the last couple of Sunbelt Series races I've seen there.

But I'll be there for a few reasons:

    1. It's technically not a Sunbelt Series race.
    2. It's one of the few big SLM races at OSW this year.
    3. Judging by what I've been seeing, OSW desperately needs the support of the fans this year so I'm putting my money where my mouth is.
    4. I think we'll see a good field of SLMs and David Rogers has been on a hot streak.

    and most importantly...

    5. Pass up a chance to see Wayne Anderson in victory lane? How can I not go?

I still say qualifying at 6:15 is way too early... Who is there to watch it? Qualify at 7:30 so the early arriving fans have something to see and the drivers aren't doing time trials in front of an empty grandstand... Plus the track will have cooled off some...

The Autograph Session is scheduled for 7:30 so that Fans can come down and see the cars and get photos, etc...

That way once racing starts, it doesn't have to be stopped, and fans can still get the chance to have the Autograph session.

The autograph session is not just important to the Fans & Drivers... Sponsors (including Track Sponsors) like to see it and request that we have it.

Qualify at either 7 or 8 then... 6:15 is just way too early... I still think time trials (if you have to have them) should be part of the actual show the fans are paying for... Some of the folks don't even get off work until 6PM...
It does not take that long to qualify 15-18 cars at OSW anyway... Even 24 cars takes just about 20 minutes..

Mark - I do have to agree with Dave on this one. Do the autograph deal at 7, parade them around a few laps after that at pace speed, pull them into the X, one crew member gets to check only the tire pressures, and send them out to qual., run a few features and then the main event.
I really have to believe that the target audience for the Bandeleros is not the same for SLM fans and vice versa. If this is about the fans I bet the crowd that will be there Friday would rather see qual. than the other pre-race races.
Just my two cents (which is about all I made as a driver way back when...).
Keep up the great work on the web, getting the word out on here and now the newsletter ( I signed up tonight). Hope to see everyone at the track in 20 hours or so....
