  • Scott Speed - too cool for NASCAR?

There is a part of me that really wants to like the guy. He is pretty darn talented, speaks his mind, not the cookie cutter Jimmie Johnson type (even with the "I really am a man" beard) etc. But every time I see an interview with him, he always ends it with some combination of hip-hop - too cool for you - gangsta crap that makes em want to punch him in the face. Am I the only one - should I seek therapy? I think he really has something on the track for the guys he is racing against, but man he is friggin annoying to listen to.

You should probably seek therapy regardless.

I have a few engineer friends that have been at test sessions with Mr. Speed when he was still in open wheel racing and they all pretty much said the same thing - unbelievably fast like nothing they've seen and absolutely brutal on other drivers.

I've always been of the opinion that racecar drivers should be unbelievably confident or they shouldn't be out there, so I've never had a problem with cocky drivers.

I miss cheering for Scott Speed in F1. I don't really watch NA$CAR other than to see how David Reutimann is doing, so I really don't pay attention to Scott Speed any more.

Didn't one of those nascrap talking heads questions Speed's commitment to stock car racing before the season?...What exactly is it that Speed has to be cocky about?

Being the American in F1 was what got me watching him, and he really does seem to pick up whatever is thrown at him. Trucks, ARCA, etc. His payback he gave out in the ARCA finale last year was absolutely beautiful - albeit maybe stupid. It sorta reminds me of the way Tim Richmond didnt really fit in - including the talent - although he has yet to prove much in Cup, I think he will, if he sticks it out and steers clear of me.

Maybe I am just getting old and need to come to grips with the way the younger ones express themselves. Jack - I will see if we can get two for one on the therapy.

Anybody Know if Scott Speed is related to Lake Speed or Chambers Speed?
Lake Speed was form go karts then played in Nascar, Chambers is Lakes son and Scott is about the correct age to be CHambers boy.
Just interested that is all. I was friends with Lake when he ran karts.

According to google, he is not related to Lake. They seem like they came from two completely different molds, so I would have been amazed to find out they were in any way related.

I just saw on Jayski where he is a budding DJ as well, didnt see that coming...

This pic/impersonation of eminem, pretty much summarizes his image:

They are not related, it was brought up during one of the races. However they also said Scott Speed's idol growing up was Lake Speed since they both were go kart racers.

stupid how? his car had already been damaged and he was lapped at that point. he was out of the points chase and he wasn't coming back to the series. why shouldn't he wreck the hell out of the nimrod that took him out like that? no reason to let Stenhouse get the championship for that little clown show he put on.

what's ARCA going to do? fine him? how are they going to make him pay?

(even with the "I really am a man" beard)

i don't care one way or the other about the beard, but the whigger getups and manicures and everything, he's just doing that for shock value. which doesn't impress me much.

i think he's shown some promise in stock cars and in interviews it seems he understands that he getting into a whole different game than open wheel downforce stuff. but he does still have a ways to go.

Hah, yea "stupid" may have been a bit harsh. Stenhouse got what he deserved for sure, but it is never a good thing to intentionally dump someone.

                      *shrugs*

it's the only way you can race around some people. as far as i'm concerned, Stenhouse lost any consideration he might have hoped for when he intentionally wrecked the race and points leader in the last race of the season.

he needs to be totalled out. it will probably take quite a few times before he learns anything if you go by how he was mouthing off in the post wreck interview.

As far as "dumping", what goes around comes around. The only person that gets the dirty weenie is the person(s) that get caught up in the carnage. Been there, done that! Felt a little bad for the other car...
