  • New Smyrna!

Excellent racing tonight at New Smyrna! The Richie Evans 100 was the best race I've ever seen there. Ever. Ted Christopher and Ronnie Silk battled and swapped the lead just inches in front of Bobby Grigas. No kidding, in the last 30 laps, I bet they swapped the top spot at least 10 times, often trading it twice a lap. It was clean, fast and remarkably competitive, expecially the second half of the race.

The groove at NSS has moved about one lane up off the bottom. Not everyone drives it that way, but the winners do, like tinight's SLM winner Wayne Anderson. It looks like the outside is just as effective a passing lane as the inside, so the quality on the racing is much improved over recent years. The was not a great deal of destruction tonight either. In fact, I can only think of one car that got badly wadded up. It was Chet Morrison's SLM.

Mix in a very successful modified reunion and I ended up with a perfect race day and night. Good job NSS!

I don't think I'll see another race all year that was as good as that one. I KNOW it was the best I have EVER seen at NSS. The only word that describes it is "spectacular".

I'll stand behind my long-time opinion that double-file restarts make for a FAR superior show for the fans. These guys had complete respect for each other, never taking cheap shots or leaning on each other to pick up/maintain a position (and they can do it with open-wheeled cars). If our Florida guys could drive with that much respect for each other, the racing could improve ten-fold. The question is, if our guys HAVE enough respect to get the job done. Sadly, I think I already know the answer to that one.

I know there are a few RACERS who could do it, but there are tooooo many kids of rich Daddies who don't mind tearing up half the cars in the field, knowing Daddy will just write a check for new stuff. If they actually had to WORK on their own torn-up stuff, maybe it wouldn't happen nearly as often!

I said it last night in Victory Lane... in my 33 years I can honestly say I have NEVER seen a race like that... at least not in person...

The racing was great and the fans in the stands were very appreciative as shown by there response when TC got out of the car... It was great to be a part of something so spectacular...

Add in the what happened at the end of the night and there was no shortage of excitement for the fans last night at NSS...

Tonight we wrap things up with the 6th Annual Pete Orr Memorial 100 for the Super Late's... expecting another big crowd and more great side-by-side Racing!

Mark, *excellent* job on the mic last night. I could actually understand what you were saying, even getting all the qualifying times. Ben Dodge did great with the Mods as well.

That Modified race was *something else*. I don't think I've ever seen two grooves used so much like that at NSS in about 25 years - since the days of Spencer, Baldwin, and Evans himself. I've never seen the lead swapped like that so many times in one lap, either. TC and Silk and those crossover moves diving into the corners were something else. I thought maybe that TC and the 79 would take each other out lap after lap, and let Grigas get by, but man o' man....THAT was a helluva race. TC came from the back of the field, what, at least three times. Told my girlfriend to watch that 00 car. She'd never even seen a Modified race before last night. Hated to see some good cars get wadded up after Blewett either broke or got turned around. As long as that car was on pit road with the rear end jacked up, something tells me he broke something and everyone just piled in. Hossfeld, Fuller, Blewett, and Preece all coulda been there at the end if they hadn't gotten tangled up.

Man, we shoulda stuck around for the LLM race, huh? Heard there was a helluva fight with Jason Boyd - again - getting into it in Victory Lane or something? Just know what I read on Speed51.com.

The Richie Evans 100 was probably the best race i've ever seen on a short track , asphalt or dirt . Its hard to belive how deep Ted Cristopher drives in to the corner to make a pass , but he pulls it off . I was impressed with how clean all three drivers raced each other .
There has been a lot of great racing this week at NSS in all of the classes .

Ejected once for an illegal crate engine at the ASA race at New Smyrna. Ejected again from New Smyrna for crashing the party in Victory Lane during SpeedWeeks.

              All class.
