  • Is it just me?

Or has anyone else noticed the biggest buzz going on in Speedweeks/World Series/Winter Nationals seems to be the figure 8 shows at Auburndale? I'm not shilling for anyone, but I can assure you that in the last 24 hours, I've spoken in person to no fewer than 5 race buddys, and all of them are looking forward to the figure 8 series. I am starting to think it is going to be crowded over there.

Maybe it just reflects the low class of friends I have!

Just be thankful the buzz isnt over a demo derby or bando race.

I am willing to bet that there will be standing room only at Auburndale this week. This is one of the most exciting shows anywhere... Hey Wayne (Calkins) good luck and be safe!

It has been said people go to the races for the crashes not the racing.

              OK class, repeat after me:

              E..N..T..E..R..T..A..I..N..M..E..N..T.

When all promoters and racers as well understand this, maybe speedway's grandstands around the country will refill themselves again.

              Nice day!

Andre is correct . This is entertainment . Look at the large crowds the Crash O Ramas always pull in . And wouldn't you think that the track promotors would get the hint and try to up the entertainment value at the weekly shows . Well , maybe they will after reading these reponses . Oh wait , they don't read these sites .

OK, I'll agree it's entertainment. So are auto thrill shows, demos, trailer races, etc., etc.

As long as we're not confusing it with real racing. Big/small block modifieds, supermodifieds, winged/ wingless sprints, USAC level midgets, super lates. That's racing.

If figure 8 racing (for all the fun it may be for the participants) becomes the "next big thing" in racing, I'm guessing that a lot of longtime fans will be taking an early retirement (from racing)

Hey Shiloh, do you realize that everything you consider to be "real racing" takes big bucks, even the midgets?

Its a mistake to mix pro figure 8 in with crash a rama style events. It is real racing that happens to take place on a different shaped track.

really? i happen to think that we have a HUGE problem when "racing" is not entertaining.

and as long as the fast cars keep getting started up front, especially straight up, it's going to be hard to make it entertaining.

so that is where the old Florida modifieds go to pasture. I BIG change from Islip and those type of figure 8 cars.
I hope there purse is good. I can see a LOT of pain killers if you meet at those speeds.

If it's such a side show bring your favorite driver to the speedrome sept. 12 and pick up a easy 20k

I have read these replys to this topic and think figure 8 racing is getting a bad rep. Let see they score the laps like round and round racing, they pay a purse to the drivers the only differance is they do not go in a circle and there is some real action in the x and not the snoozer we sometimes get at regular races.

I know some of the drivers and they work just as hard as any circle track racers and take a bigger chance then most of them do. Just because some tracks have turned figure 8 racing into a joke, the Speedrome treats it as a regular part of the show and puts on some great racing, so does Citrus and Aurbandale.

This is as much of a real race as any oval track or road course. If you enjoy it more then great watch it more, but dont call it just a side show or some add on. It is a RACE!
