  • East Bay Winter Nationals Start Thursday - Ascs Rebel Region 360's Up First

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (January 26, 2009) – The sweet sound of Sprint Car engines will fill the air for the first time in 2009 this coming weekend as the American Sprint Car Series Rebel Region kicks off East Bay Raceway Park's 33rd Annual Winter Nationals in Tampa, FL.

Following a Wednesday night practice session from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., three full nights of competition will ensue on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with $10,000 going to the winner of Saturday night's Ronald Laney Memorial.

The track has already fielded a number of pre-entries, including a handful from as far away as Canada.

Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL, reigns as the defending ASCS Rebel Region champion after outdistancing Daytona Beach's Matt Tiffany by 70 markers for the title in 2008, with stepson Bryn Gohn third in final points last year.

Danny Martin, Jr., scored an ASCS Rebel win at East Bay last April, while Sport Allen closed out the 2008 Rebel season with a November triumph.

Defending Lucas Oil ASCS National champion Jason Johnson of Eunice, LA, topped last year's edition of the Ronald Laney Memorial at East Bay Raceway Park.

Gary Wright, a two-time "King of the 360's" winner with triumphs in 1999 and 2007, is set to make his debut aboard one of the Lubbock Wrecker Service entries, with other past event winners including Terry McCarl (2006), Chad Kemenah (2005), Sport Allen (2003), Jason Sides (2002), Jeff Shepard (2001) and Ronald Laney (2000).

East Bay Raceway Park is located off I-75 Exit 250, then two miles west, then 1.2 miles north on US 41, then right 1.3 miles on Old US 41 to Burts Road. For more information, contact the track at 813-677-7223.

The American Sprint Car Series, in its 18th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing events, brings the best of Sprint Car racing to approximately 100 different tracks throughout 30 states and Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of a dozen different Regions throughout the nation.

Hmmm...both tracks are claiming Terry McCarl, but I'm 95% sure he's going to be at Ocala this week.

If you look close, they are showing him as a "previous winner", rather than a "current entry".
