Before racing could start at VSP on Sunday, the crew spent an hour watering and working in the very top of the track in the corners (the bottom of the track was left alone). During the races, no one ran in the area that had gotten all the attention. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm genuinely curious why the track workers spent so much time prepping a part of the track that was never used during the races. Can anyone educate me about dirt track prep?

If the bottom grooves get rubbered up and ruts or holes in the better lines, then the cars will move to a higher and faster line. If conditions were good in the lower lines then was no reason to move up.....JMO

Top is watered so that you do not have a "MARBELS" type of problem when you come out of the lower groove. ALSO the track is banked and water will works it way down to the lower groove without making a mud puddle. The lower was prepped early that day and the days before you get to see the surface.
When the sprints and Modifieds get there you will see that top groove used and then some.
