some ideas for next year:

• check with the carnival to see if you can open the beer stand. heck, the carnie's themselves would probably be grateful.
• get somebody with a two seat car to rent rides around the track during the day.
• possibly let people take their street cars out one at a time for say, 5 laps each?
• might want to run the races during the day next year and and schedule it to turn the crowd loose into the fair around dark. that way they're not stuck sitting in the bleachers when it's cold.

These are all great ideas! I saw something on a racing website yesterday that made me think of a possible variation, on one of your ideas:

I don't know the name of the ATV vehicle pictured, but it seems like I see a lot of those things in the pits at most tracks. If a race team would be willing to donate their vehicle for an hour or two each night, and the track could come up with a few of those seat buggies, they could pull the kids around for a "tour of the pits" at each race, or maybe take rides around the track, maybe charging $1 a ride, to raise a few dollars for the track's year-end points fund.

We've got to start doing more to make coming to a track fun for the kids, and the casual race fans.

All great ideas guys,however, one word puts a halt to all the rides. Insurance coverage. The biggest damper on ride-a-longs is liability. Take my word as a two seater car owner NASCAR and very safe and well maintained........It does not matter. Track ins. policys have a special rider for this and it ain't cheap....Sorry for the cloud, but it is a great idea for improved attendence.

not the best vehicle for the job. fairly high center of gravity and nothing to keep your arms/legs inside the cab. that thing goes over and somebody's probably going to get road rash at the least.

the whole point of giving rides on the track is for the sensation of speed. you don't need to be going 10/tenths but you should definitely be pulling their neck over in the corner. skimming the wall is also good for that.

well that sucks. always f'ing insurance and lawyers. let me know when we can start shooting them.

i guess it's up to Auburndale's insurance and how much they want to throw at this then.
