  • Econo mods at North Florida Speedway

I hear North florida Speedway is going to be runing a class call the Econo Mods this year. Open wheel modifieds with hobby stock motors. Sounds like a great idea. Does any one know what the payout is? The few times I raced there, the payout was very bad.

You might get quicker response if you post this over on florida flag stand. I know Richard, there flagman [ and I think head PR guy ], goes on that site alot. Not to sure about here though.

It's called I.M.C.A and it's been around for 30 plus years. fla used to run by their rules (stock claimer motors) until everyone decided they wanted..... $20K Lm motors in mods so they could spin the tires.

Fla Promoters......sorry ......track owners (there aren't any promoters left), get with it and mods will come back to life on dirt and asphalt.
Normalcy is a myth. what is perfectly normal for the Cheetah, Becomes absolute chaos for the Antelope.

You are right Benny. I remember when there would be 20 or more cars every Saturday night. Then a few loud mouths ruined it for every one else. They couldn't make their car handle so they out ran them down the straights and turned on thier turn signals and looked both ways when they got to the turn. North Florida had a claimer class in 07 but got scared and quit. The mistress made the decission and the husband did as he was told. Treaded tires would be the next best thing. And your right. There are no promoters left.

Any kind of claimer class ;are always all about who can aford to lose the most money ,wins the most, cus they don't tech/just buy out, were rule enforcement with any other rule is the trick and often not done enough.
I must addmit that street tires holds both cost and speed down, helps keep cheater motors from hooking up,that's nearly always a good thing! cus it makes more =.
But open wheel mods also look a bit goofy with them little tires yet the little tires make closer races.
Some will say street tires are to squirrley, but there the guys that can't drive and or do poor set up.

got to get the facts strait!!! these are mods with pure stock motors. see the rules on the web site. ok boys volusia has a claimer on the mod.s now what do you do. they also all have a gentlemens agreement not to claim. I let the claim go in 07' due to the fact guys didnt want to claim even some big motors that came in and ran at the track. we will tech. p&g, c.c, pull heads etc. at wil. simple guy tell me what would you do, not claiming the big motor. bye the way when I go race I go to win not to ride in the back
simple anytime you want to run the track for any amount of time come on in and bring your $$ lots. I havn't made a dime in the last 3 years. I did to support drivers, even ungrateful ones like yourself.

Now here is a textbook example of a racetrack " Promotor/ Owner " who should be barred from being either one . Implying that the racers just aren't smart enough to understand your grand scheme of things ( as well as accusing them of showing up just to ride arround at the back of the pack ) is not going to help keep your car counts up .

I went to that track in Lake City a couple times last year & I thought the racing was boring. The track is pretty much one groove & to narrow, it could be better if they would make it wider & put red clay on it. As far as the Mods go they had two fast ones & the other five or six were in the way so maybe a engine rule might help.

Open motor rules have helped to deminish the modified class. It would be more competitive for everyone with a claimer rule than a motor rule. East Bay has a motor rule and they still spend 15 to 20 thousand. A claim rule should keep the big motors out. As for Volusia, I was told that UMP said they will not enforce the claim rule. treaded tires such as the G 60's would also help. If you can't hook em up, why have all that motor. The IMCA claimer rule works well around the rest of the country. It seems Florida can not work it out. Jax Raceways used to have a straight claim. No swapping or anything like that. They had 20 plus cars every week. It wasn't untill they changed the rule to satisfy a couple of people who could not make their cars handle and the class droped off......The motor rule at North Florida seems to be the third best answer for the class. Again those with money will out horse power those without. But what will they payout? $200 and a water melon. (if in season) These self rightous tracks that provide a place to race should wake up and relize it takes money to race as well as to run a track. You make rules that cost the racers more money. Why do you need roller rockers and stud girdles for the former hobby stocks. Why World Product heads and Elderbrock intakes. Why not OEM parts. And that excuse it makes the motor last is bull. You can make them last if your not turning 7000 + RPM's. And as for you Phil. If you lost money with your dismal pay outs, I'm sure you made up for it duriing you turkey flop. Look at Golden Isle's pay out and you will see why they have so many cars. Way up in Georgia at that. You run a third rate track with third rate ideas and and receive poor advice. You want to be like Volusia and Ocala, but you don't have the people or the skill.

By the way, why havn't you posted a payout yet? Do you need to check with the other tracks first? You've know about this class for several months now.
