Looking At Some Posts On The Old Board About Lakeland Ticket Prices. Now Its Gone When Not Enough Fans Supported It. Some Of Us Went To East Bay Last Year And It Was Only 12 Bucks For A Great Show. Now Charlotte Is Charging 20 For All Their Races.
What Gives? Seems A Little Steep For Local Racing.

Many promotors just fill there pockit and run,a few try hard, but any time it cost more at the races for the stands, then to go to a movie,it can't work long.
A fairly full stands only comes after they know about it the first time,,from cheep enough to take the family#1 and a better show then at the movies#2,failing this, they start pickpockiting the racers for every thing they think of.
Some of the prob is land and taxes have gone out of site, and that comes back to greed too.
So much out there now to pull those away that other wise may of come, def not as EZ as it was 20 years ago to fill the stands, but #1 and #2 are still the same

I don't the problem is greed. Greed has led to some great decisions and success in the past. I think the issue is business sense.

Are you going to sell a little for a lot or a lot for a little? Both strategies work, but only one can work in this case.

This is (largely) amatuer, no-name stock car racing for those not on this board (all 37 of us). Let's break it down.

In November, I went to the Atlanta NASCAR race and paid $19 for a ticket. $19. And I saw the best, most recognizable drivers in the country.

Next month, I'll go to Daytona, see the ARCA 200 and Bud Shootout with all the spectacle that goes with it for $40. $40 for two big league races at the World Center of Racing.

Now, thousands of race fans will pay big money to see names like Gordon, Earnhardt, Stewart and Edwards.

A lot of those race fans may drop $10 to go see some short track racing, see what it's all about. Most of them will buy a couple of beers and a hamburger (I prefer a cheeseburger). If the buzz and the racing moves them, they may even come back and pay another $10, which is less than it costs to go out to dinner and on par with the movies.

But those same race fans -- granted, they're casual fans but they have money -- will be scared away with a $20 or a $25 price tag. Promoters can justify the cost by saying that they'll see the best in short track racing. Names like Anderson, Choquette and Russell.

Here's the problem. Hardly anyone knows who the hell those people are. They're just shiny cars racing single file in front of a guy who dropped $20 or $30 to sit on a wooden bleacher. The racing might even be good, but I've never seen a regular short track show that was $30-good.

You have to sell what you have for a cost that the most people will pay. Try $10 for your show. At least you'll sell more beer.

I'd enjoy it if the Inside FL Racing show could do a piece on how the lowering of both the front (to $10) and rear gate (to $20 for non-FASCAR members) are working, for OSW and New Smyrna. I'd be curious to hear the "before" and "after" figures. Are the crowds bigger? Are the concession sales any different? I know it is still a relatively new change, but I'd like to know if either or both tracks feel it has been a positive, or negative, change.
