    New Smyrna Practice Friday

OK, I'm going to be a real smart alec here and ask why there has to be a Friday practice for this race? These types of practices only add expenses for those who participate and give the money guys a bigger advantage.
Why not open the gates Saturday at noon (no, not 8 AM) let the various divisions practice as necessary then time trial, race and go home. Is the track deprived of some Friday revenue, sure, but so what, they don't have any Friday overheard either and the best part is that the race teams all save money on tires, fuel, accomodations wear and tear etc. Come on track management, wake up and be practical in these tough economic times.

This subject has been brought up many times , in fact i think it was discussed during the meetings with Robert Hart several months ago . Yet here we are again . If the racers are serious about reducing the costs of racing , then they need to stand up together and let the track owners know how they feel . Racers with lots of money to spend can and will justify practice sessions as indispensible . But the truth is , anything that can be learned during a practice session on Friday can just as easily be learned during a couple of hours on Saturday . And that being the case , why give some teams the opportunity to test , while forcing other teams to test just to keep up . I realize that a large part of the income of a race track is made by renting the facility out for testing , and that needs to be addressed as well , but there is no real justification for an extra test session the day before a race .
