    For those interested in converting a late model/super late/ ex cup car to road race to try Daytona, Sebring etc. Here's the deal.

    2009 V8 STOCKCAR V8 SPO RULES
    General Specifications
    All cars competing in this class must meet all SCCA safety requirements for GTcategory automobiles found in Section 9 of the GCR unless otherwise specified herein. This includes but is not limited to GCR requirements for:

    1. Vehicle documentation
    2. Driver restraint systems
    3. Driver’s safety equipment
    4. On-board fire systems
    5. Fuel & fuel cells (may use either the Touring or GT fuel specs)
    6. Master switch requirements
    7. Brake and tail light requirements
    8. Rollover structures
    9. Seats
    10. Towing eyes
    11. Window safety nets
    12. Gauges and data acquisition
    13. Car number and class designations must meet SCCA GCR specifications.

    Chassis Specifications

    Super late model or GTA/ASA type
    Any commercially available or competitior built, mild steel stock car chassis with a minimum wheelbase of 104” and a maximum wheelbase of 108” may be used.
    Chrome alloy chassis are not allowed.
    Max Track width 65 inches
    The minimum overall height (measured 10 inches behind at the top of the windshield) is 46.5 inches. for super late model and GTA/ASA chassis.
    The base minimum weight for a car based on the super late, GTA/ASA chassis is 2800 pounds with driver after the race.

    NASCAR CUP, BUSCH, NATIONWIDE, ARCA, HOOTERS,ALL PRO Chassis rules:

    1. Wheelbase as raced in the respective series, (105-110 inches)
    2. Body dimension as raced in respected series
    3. blade spoilers only as used in respective series
    4. Minimum base weight NASCAR CUP, ARCA cars is 3400 pounds with driver after the race when using full, recent type motors. (see addendum)

    5.The minimum ground clearance for any part of the chassis or bodywork rearward of the front tires (with all tires inflated to a maximum of 25 psi) is 4.0 inches.
    6. The minimum ground clearance for the front air dam (with all tires inflated to a maximum of 25 psi) is 3.0 inches.
    7. The maximum front bumper/body width is 80.0 inches for a super Late Model car.
    8. A minimum of 10.0 inches, measured from the center of the crankshaft bolt to the ground, must be maintained at all times (with all tires inflated to a maximum of 25 psi).

    Body Specifications
    All super late model cars in this class must use 1990 through current-year commercially available stock car composite bodywork. The types of bodies allowed are:
    1. Chevrolet Impala
    2. Chevrolet Monte Carlo
    3. Dodge Charger
    4. Dodge Intrepid
    5. Ford Fusion
    6. Ford Taurus
    7. Ford Thunderbird
    8. Oldsmobile Cutlass
    9. Pontiac Grand Prix

    Suspension/Shock Absorber Specifications
    1. Springs are open.
    2. The steering wheel must be mechanically coupled to the front wheels and activate only those wheels (no “steer by wire” or “four-wheel steering”). Power assist is allowed and may be driven off the differential.
    3. A collapsable steering column, either by layout design or column construction, is required.
    4. Front lower control arms must be made of steel. Upper control arms, strut arms and upper pivot shafts may be aluminum.
    5. Spindles must be steel and designed for racing applications.
    6. Independent front suspension with articulated upper and lower control arms is mandatory.
    7. Major steering components including steering arms, tie rods, idlers, etc., must be fabricated from approved ferrous or non-ferrous alloys. All heim joints must be of aircraft quality.
    8. Sway (anti-roll) bars must be made of steel. Heim joints are allowed to be attached to the lower control arm(s) and/or rear end. Driver adjustable sway bars are allowed.
    9. The longitudinal linking system for the rear of the chassis may not exceed four locations and may not include a “torque tube” of any design. Spring-loaded and/or cushioned (torque absorbing) links are permitted.
    10. Either a panhard bar or Watts link may be used to locate the rear axle laterally.
    11. Independent rear suspensions are not allowed.
    12. Any auto racing commercially available shock is allowed, with only one shock per wheel allowed. Canister type such as Penske 8100 series OK

    Rear End Specifications

    1. Ford 9” or Quick Change units only. No “rear drive” or modified driven Quick Change rear ends are allowed
    2. The maximum rear camber per wheel is +/- 1.75 degrees.
    3. Electronic and/or electronic/hydraulic traction control devices are not allowed.

    Transmission, Clutch, Flywheel, Bellhousing, and Driveshaft Specifications
    1. Transmissions must be of readily available stockcar-style technology with four forward gears and an operating, driver-engageable reverse. No five-speed, semi-automatic or automatic transmissions are allowed. Manual “H-style” shift linkage is required. No sequential shift mechanisms are allowed. Ceramic bearings are not allowed.

    Wheel and Tire Specifications
    1. Wheels for super late chassis must be 15”x10” steel stock car rims of a one-piece construction specifically for racing. min. weight is 20 pounds.
    2. Wheels for Cup, Busch, Nationwide, ARCA, Hooters. All Pro may be as raced in the respective series with a max of 15x10 inch and min. weight of 26pounds.
    3. Soaking or chemical treating of the tires is prohibited.
    4. In the event the race is declared a rain race by the Chief Steward, any tire may be used that fits a V8 StockCar legal rim.

    Brake Specifications
    1. All vehicles must use dual master cylinder, 4-wheel disc brake systems.
    2. Driver adjustable brake bias is allowed.
    3. Brake rotors must be iron.
    4. Brake recirculators are allowed.
    5. Any commercially available six piston or four piston two-piece brake caliper may be used with no weight penalty.
    6. Inline blowers may be used in the brake cooling ducts, but water cooling of the brakes is not allowed.
    7. Electronically controlled anti-lock braking systems are not allowed.
    8. Brake pad materials are open.

    ENGINES
    1. All engines will be normally aspirated, pushrod V-8s.
    2. The centerline of the crankshaft shall be located on the centerline of the entire chassis
    3. engines with the most forward spark plug hole aligned with the centerline
    of the front lower ball joints without weight penalty. Engines set back to a maximum of 3 inches shall have a 50 pound weight penalty.
    4. Aftermarket engine blocks are allowed, but must be equal to or greater in weight and exterior dimensions compared to the original manufacturer of the make and model.
    5. The crankshaft must be made of steel or iron. The stroke may be increased or decreased. min. allowable weight is 38 pounds. Lightweight, knife-edge, 180-degree, pendulum cut,scalloped, and/or undercut counterweight crankshafts are allowed
    6. Connecting rods must be solid steel. No titanium, aluminum, stainless steel or composite rods are allowed. Rods may be tested by using a magnet.
    7. Valve covers are open.
    8. Alternators must be OEM type, belt driven, and are optional. One-wire alternators are permitted and may be driven off the engine or the differential.
    9. Water pumps must be OEM type. Water pump impellers may be altered for improved cooling.
    10. The accelerator pedal must be mechanically coupled to the fuel/air metering device
    (no “fly by wire” throttles).
    11. Maximum of one Holley type 4150 carburetor allowed.

    ADDENDUM 2009 V8 StockCar Series V8 SPO class V8 SPO SUPER LATE MODEL TYPE:
    HOWE, PORT CITY, HAMKE, LEFTHANDER, SWT. GTA type or similar
    2800 lbs up to 366 ci *
    2900 lbs 367-383 c.i. *
    *18 degree SBC, 23 degree, LS Series, and current conventional SLM Fords and Dodges allowed. Note: SB2 Chevy or other recent NASCAR CUP type motored cars will be classed in V8 GT-1 if utilized in the super late or GTA type chassis.
    ABC type or straight up commercially available Late Model bodies as built by FIVESTAR, ARP, etc
    Four speeds only, ie JERICO, TEX, RANKIN, MID VALLEY, RICHMOND , EMCO
    aluminum or steel driveshafts only
    live axle rear end only, no independent rear
    Quick Change or 9" type rear end OK
    Six Piston Brakes front OK ie: AP, WILWOOD, BREMBO, ALCON, PF, etc.
    Four Piston in rear
    Coil Over suspension OK, with canister aluminum body shocks OK ie: PENSKE, OHLINS
    15X10 steel stock car type wheels, min. weight 20 lbs
    Tires: 15" diameter, 10" wide stock car type: ie Hoosier 3035
    5" late model type blade spoiler only, no wings

    NASCAR CUP, NATIONWIDE, EX BUSCH, ARCA, HOOTERS, Camping World East-West STEEL BODIED CAR ENGINE/.WEIGHT RULES FOR V8 SPO:
    Engines: SB2, 18 degree, 23 degree or Cup/Busch legal Ford, Dodge and Toyota 362 c.i. max. allowed
    Weight: 3400 # with driver after race for cup motored cars
    3200 # with driver after race for 18-23 degree chevy, for Hooters, spec Chevy/Ford
    4 speeds only, Jerico, Tex etc
    9 inch or quick change rear ends
    min ride height 4"
    15x9.5 cup wheels stock car type wheels only, min. weight 26 #
    spoiler: blade only, period correct for series car ran Tires: 15x12x27 Goodyear Cup or Hoosier ARCA/HSR tire
    COT Cup cars can run period correct wing.
