    Hey AJ

Perhaps you think they should give the formula anyway, then Mom will have more stuff to sell, more drugs to buy.... NOT..

I would imagine if Mom doesn't pass the test,, there would be some thought about taking the baby away and give it a chance in life...

Or should we do iet your way and just see what happens....

Boy, you sure stepped on yourself with that last post of yours huh?

I hope you're smarter than that . I'll give you the benefit of the doubt . Yes , i damn sure do think that the DJ or anyone else for that matter should GIVE the baby food if its hungry . And that goes for any baby anywhere whos hungry .
Now about this drug test . I haven't seen any evidence that the girl is anything other than what was reported . A young mother that didn't know any better , or didn't have much money , or both . But little by little , now shes a addict that should go to jail and have her baby taken away . We're getting a little carried away here boys . If i have to rely on the judgement of someone who calls himself " Bubba the Love Sponge " i think i'll wait for the whole story to come out .
Fred , if only Democrats are concerned about a baby going hungry , considering that the baby has no choice in the matter , then i am certainly a Democrat .

Let me dumb this down a little for i see my rant was too long and confusing.

the MOM should have been the one in the hospital suffering from malnutrition......not the baby.

She was skimping in the WRONG place......bet the car has gas in it!

This is neglect........claiming ignorance is a joke.

Lock her ass up and let someone adopt the kid that will worry about buying formula and supplies for baby THEN worry about the other petty crap.

I will go hungry to make sure my kids are cared for properly.............looks to me like she's not that concerned about hers.

The baby will be just as hungry ,and just as much in need , whether the mother passes the drug test or not .

          here, i splain in this in terms even a Democrat can understand;
if the mother fails an official drug test, Child Protective Services will seize the baby and remove it from the home.

you might not like the idea of the kid going to foster care or an orphan home but that's one hell of a lot better than staying in a house with a mother who would rather candy her nose than feed her child. even if Bubba fully funded her child's food needs, what else is she going to neglect? how often does that diaper get changed? how is she going to keep the kid in clothes? how much time or attention will she be devoting to the child?

whether Bubba spends a dime or keeps all of his ill gotten gains for himself, he is forcing a glaring spot light on the question of why this happened in the first place.

and that's plenty enough of a "good deed" for me.

i dunno. the idea that she's so damn stupid that she couldn't tell that she was starving her child to death would seem to be more than sufficient cause to be throwing up red flags to me.

all you see is "hungry child", you're incapable of asking the questions "why" and "what are the implications here".

You're right Todd . All i see is IS the fact that the baby is hungry . Thats by far the most important part of this sad story . And no matter what the implications , no matter what the back story , no matter what the political stance , the " Love Sponge " should be sending help to this baby no matter how the drug test comes out if he really cares . Or is this just a ratings gimmick . No , that couldn't be .

Benny , for all we know , the mother may very well be suffering from malnutrition . That hasn't been reported . Again , we're going a little overboard here . If it turns out that the girl is an addict , that shes been wasting her food money on drugs , that she has no business with a baby , that " The Sponge " actually has brilliant insight into things he knows nothing about , then we can all take turns condemning the girl , and we'd be justified in doing so .
But i don't know nearly enough about the story to make a judgement about her one way or another . And neither does anyone one this blog .
And as far as her parenting skills , i think we all know a number of parents who really should'nt be allowed to be parents . But if we start policeing parenting skills , that means more government in our lives , and i thought you right wingers were for less government intrusion .

are you slow on the uptake or what? here, i quote the news story you just read:

"La’Damian Barton was hospitalized last week"

the baby is NOT hungry NOW.

the issue is, "what's going to happen going forward".

" Love Sponge " should be sending help to this baby no matter how the drug test comes out if he really cares .

                  if
she fails the test, the child will be taken from her and placed in a home of some sort. where, you know, she'll be fed.

you are aware that giving children double portions of meals doesn't accomplish anything but making them fat, yes?

But if we start policeing parenting skills , that means more government in our lives , and i thought you right wingers were for less government intrusion .

because, you know, starving your child to death doesn't count as "child abuse" in AJ's world.

your only defense is "we don't know". but we do know quite a lot already. you just don't want to acknowledge what we know.

                    jeeez louise...

it never ceases to amaze me how quick people on these boards are to judge others. IF she is a crackhead she should have her child taken away from her until she is clean after rehab...
i have been raising kids for 50 years and i never knew it was dangerous to add water to formula... there were many times i added water to make sure he would drink some water. he didnt like it plain. i didnt do it to save money.
i also laid them on their tummies and tightly wrapped them so they would be warm and not drown if they threw up. now im learning they want them to lay on their backs. every decade they change.
i understand that we do more research now but i had healthy kids that were never sick except for the normal childhood things like chicken pox and measles.
i am in agreement that we should help our poor. BUT... not our lazy!!!! and i said help...not support. the more you do for people, the more they want you to do and the less they will do for themselves.
well we could probably write on this thread til infinity but we do all agree on one thing. crackhead/mom is an oxymoron... in fact a MORON!
                    have a happy day...

Todd , i would direct your attention to the original post by Jane . You will notice that NO WHERE does it mention anything about the mother being a drug addict . You might also notice that it doesn't mention anything about taking the child away from its mother .
This reminds me of the grade school game where a person whispers something to another student and then the story is whispered to each student all the way around the room . By the time the last person hears it , the story has taken on a life of its own . Now calm down , take a breath and go back and read Janes post again . She was obviously concerned for the wellfare of the child and felt bad for the mother having been put in a situation where she couln't afford to feed her child . Now you've got the poor girl selling the babys formula for drugs , starving the baby because she's the worst mother ever , and about to lose the child to the wellfare system . Instead of building these wild tales about someone none of us knows anything about , lets refer to the ONLY LEGITIMATE info we have . THE FIRST POST by Jane .

I never meant to start a war but when I read that story in Florida Today, it really was sad and very upsetting as it was written. There was nothing said about the mom selling the formula for drugs just that her baby was in the hospital due to lack of enough formula and too much water. Being a mom, yes, that got to me. And yes, to think that we live in the United States, land of plenty, and we have our own starving children and little help sometimes other than WIC when we are low income and can't really afford to have a child but do. My mom once said if you wait until you can afford a baby, you will be waiting all your life to have one which in many cases is probably true. Thank goodness we do have programs that help pregnant moms, new moms, and children but the way that article was written, we failed with this mom.

Alex, who is 16 now, was always underweight but thank God for WIC and their help after he turned one because they put him on some expensive formula to help him gain weight. I had to go to the office every month to pick it up and they always made sure he had enough but they were there to help us. I know my grandson also gets WIC and 8 cans of formula a month and we DO NOT WATER DOWN HIS FORMULA even though sometimes his mom runs out. We just all have to get together a buy him a can (30.00 a can) and we do, no question about it.

It was the baby who needed help and that was why the story was so sad to me. And whether the mom was on drugs or whatever, if you are going to help, you help because if we don't care about our own children here in America, no one else will. Just think, maybe the story was true as written and she really didn't have enough to buy the extra formula needed each month so she did what she had to do to make it stretch and that was add way too much water for the baby. Now THAT IS SAD.
