My dad took me to St. Pete to the races when I was five years old. Sun shine Speedway I think. I remember two old coupes racing from the back to the front. I did not know who they drivers were(sp) until the Govenor's Cup race in 1966. Wayne Reutimann rolled out of the third turn and onto the front straight and I told my dad that one of the old coupes looked just like that car, and the man next to my dad said that would have been Waynes dad Emil. I told him about the other coupe, that was a squared off coupe boby that was black with a white #1 with red and orange flames coming off the 1. He said that was the great Pete Foltz, and that they were two to of the best racers in the area. My dad could not belive that I remembered that race, but I can see it like it was yesterday(I turned 60 on friday). I have been hooked on racing every since then. Next time you go to the races take a kid, you might be making a life long fan. So whats you first race that you remember?

My very first memory is from Ft. Wayne Speedway around 1957... I was 5 years old at the time... It was the first race I ever went to... The only thing I remember vividly was a big crash... They were racing LM Convertibles... It may have been a AAA or ARCA race... One guy went thru the turn one fence and out of the ballpark... The car was a red 1956 Plymouth or Dodge... After the races we walked over to where the car was still sitting... It was as flat as a pancake... The driver, I have no idea who he was, was badly hurt but my dad said he survived...

My first racing memory was in the very early 80's at Daytona when they let all the scouts in for free. My father took me over ( I think it was the twin 125's) and I wasn't real sure about it. Then they started the engines and I have been going to races, local and big events, ever since. I have been on pit crews, owned and driven my own car, worked as an announcer, security, and media. I hope one day to have at least as much memorabilia and photos as Mr. Dave W.
