  • Want to race? - Dec. 6/Dec. 13 - Charlotte County Motorsports Park

Have you, or someone you know, ever wanted to race against some of the top drivers in Florida, under the Saturday night lights, with your family and friends cheering you on from the stands, for a cash purse? However, have finances or family obligations prevented you from thinking it will ever be a reality?

Or, have you been looking for an unforgettable Christmas or Birthday gift for that special race fan in your family, age 15 and over?

If yes, then you may want to consider renting one of the Charlotte County Motorsports Park Champ Karts for a night! If you are wondering what champ kart racing is, please take a moment to look at footage that a fan took from a recent champ kart race (Aug. 16 at DSS): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L081tcdmF9k&fmt=18

A night's rental includes all necessary safety apparel, and kart maintenance. Included are a practice, heat race (if scheduled), and a 20 lap feature event! The rental rates are very affordable! If interested, please contact CCMP staff Greg, at 941-626-2586. And, if you think the rental karts must be slow... you may want to think again.... the rental karts have run very strong this year, with a best feature finish thus far of fifth!

Think you are too old....? The oldest driver to enter a champ kart race this year at CCMP was 71 years old!

In 2008 at CCMP in the champ karts, United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series competitor Johnny Allen has competed, along with Late Model and Truck Standout Ross Chastain, FasTruck Competitor Cody Benoit, and former Hooters Pro Cup and Florida Governor's Cup Competitor Chad Dokken!!!

On December 6, the CCMP Pro Drafting Champ Karts return to the schedule, for their third race of 2008!

The rules for the CCMP Pro Drafting Champ Karts are the same as the traveling Desoto Champ Kart Series. (see DCKS website below). And, the rental karts are available at BOTH the CCMP Pro Drafting Champ Karts races, and the Desoto Champ Kart Series races!
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The "Thundering Herd" of the Desoto Champ Kart Series will make it's final appearance of 2008 at Charlotte County Motorsports Park, on Saturday night, December 13.

The series would like to welcome any interested or curious folks to come into the pit area, to meet our drivers and crews. This series has some of the friendliest racers and crew anywhere. In 2009, the series will be busier than ever, as it has already booked race dates at five different stock car tracks!!!!

    Series website: http://www.desotochampkartseries.com

Stars: Think this is just a "go kart" series....?? Already this season, 2-time Defending TBARA Sprint Car Series champion Troy Decaire has participated twice (finishing second and third), along with 2008 FASCAR Advanced Auto Parts Pro Truck 2nd Place points finisher Barry Bartlett (finished seventh), 2008 DSS Late Model Points Champion Dustin Chisholm (WIN), 2008 DSS Late Model Feature Winner Raymond Folwell, and ASA and United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series driver JR "The Machine" Garcia (finished seventh)!

    Purse/Payout:
And, in addition to the normal cash payout in the feature (for at least the top five drivers), several additional awards will be given out in the pits following tech, for the top-ten year-end points finishers!
    --------------------------------------------------------------

And, if the feature winner on December 13 has VEGA TIRES (any compound) on both the right front and right rear, and has a VEGA TIRES decal on his/her kart, he/she will win one free VEGA TIRE (800)!! This is in addition to the cash payout, trophy and other contingencies that the feature winner will also get for that night!! A racer may use any left side tires that he/she wants, and still collect the award. Thanks to http://www.TSRacing.com for their support!

Thanks for the interest. We have placed a call today to Greg (CCMP staff) to confirm the per-race rental cost for a champ kart. The Desoto Champ Kart Series last visited CCMP on October 4, and we want to confirm with Greg that the cost is still the same as it was that night. And, if Greg gives us the OK, we'll post the rental cost here. Thanks again!

We confirmed today that the rental fee is still (only) $100 per race. (This amount even includes the $35 class entry fee!). The only additional cost that we believe the $100 doesn't cover is the driver's pit pass, which is currently $30 per at CCMP.

The $100 cost includes everything a person needs to race, including all necessary safety apparel, and kart maintenance. It's an "arrive and drive" arrangement. Included are practice session(s), heat race (if scheduled), and a 20 lap feature event.

As of this moment, CCMP has three race-ready champ karts available for rent, at each event. Two have already been rented for this Saturday night's race (Dec. 6), with one more seat open for rent!

And, we believe all three champ karts are available for rent for next Saturday night's race (Dec. 13) when the "Thundering Herd" of the Desoto Champ Kart Series come to Punta Gorda.

If anyone is interested in renting one of the CCMP karts, please contact Greg Roeback (CCMP staff) at 941-626-2586 to check on availability, and to book a race date. Thanks for the interest.

The Desoto Champ Kart Series would like to extend a special thanks to HEAT RACING. Even though the economy is down and they are sponsoring several other series and tracks, Robin and Gary Green wanted to do something special to help the Desoto Champ Kart Series racers this Saturday night. Robin and Gary are HUGE supporters of racing, and are the TBARA Sprint Car Owners for 2008 Rookie-of-the-Year Blaze Martin! HEAT RACING agreed to sponsor the year-end points funds for the 2008 CCMP Points Season. Thanks to Robin and Gary Green for all of your support this season!

Also, a special thanks goes out to Lewis Dowell of Competition Karting Inc. (CKI) in Welcome, NC. Lewis has posted three $100 giftcards, one for each of the three DCKS points champions in 2008!!! (Triple Crown, DSS Track Points, CCMP Track Points). Thank you Lewis very much!

Additionally, Tod Spaude and Raymond of TS Racing wanted to do a little something special, to recognize the 2008 Rookie of the Year Winner for the Desoto Champ Kart Series. As a result, they posted an extra prize for the ROY Winner JD Cordon. Thank you very much Tod and Raymond, for all of your support and encouragement this year!

Heading into the finale on December 13, the top fifteen in points (before the drops are factored in) are:

Will you be renting any karts at any Desoto races next year? If so, I need to get some of this action.

The rental karts are provided by Charlotte County Motorsports Park. I don't think they'll let them go to Desoto.

** FREE PRIZES!!! ** FREE PRIZES!!! ** FREE PRIZES!!! **

The prizes for the winner of the Desoto Champ Kart Series "Champ Kart Challenge" are still available!!!!! Each race, the Champ Kart Challenge jar has been placed on the series registration table. Any driver or person in the pits, in ANY DIVISION, is welcomed to fill out one slip, to predict the top five feature finishers for the champ kart feature, in the correct order.

Participation is entirely FREE!!! If any driver or person in the pits correctly picks the top five feature finishers on December 13 in the correct order, he/she will win all the prizes in the jar! The jar now contains a $15 GiftCard for Regal Cinemas, $25 GiftCard to AppleBees , $15 giftcard to StarBucks and $50 CASH !!!

If these prizes go unclaimed, the entire contents will be donated to the series, to be given out to the participants in the 2008 year-end awards!!! And amazingly.... the series has almost had a winner, in each of the last two races. At Auburndale, Scott Hailey correctly picked the top five, but had the second and third place finishers swapped on his slip (Ron Sanford and Chase Fitzgerald). Then, at the Desoto Super Speedway finale, Scott Cordon correctly picked the top five, but had the fourth and fifth place finishers swapped on his slip (Andy Whah and Alan McKinney).
