I agree you will be greatly missed. I wish you all the luck with your new job. If Robert was smart he would step up to the plate and get you to stay.

Yes, Rusty will be the new General Manager of a brand new race track in Monroe, La. It is the only concrete track in Louisiana and Mississippi and by their web-site is extremely nice. It just opened last August and little by little it definitely grew in fans and car counts. And they have Legends and Bandoleros and Rusty will be right at home with them.

But sadly, that means he will leave us and he will be missed. Rusty and I were friends long before we ever worked together and he was at Thundercross. Rusty truly loved Orlando SpeedWorld and cared about the track, the racers, and the fans. He has worked very hard to help build up Orlando and Robert won't find anyone who cared as much as he did. But this is a great opportunity for Rusty plus more money but it was not an easy decision for him to make.

Rusty will be here for the Charity Truck race next weekend and then after that, he will move to La. But he has promised and I know he will do it, to stay in touch so we will have his cell phone number and he may come back to run Winter Nationals since that is kindof his baby. Rusty is a good guy and you won't find many who do care as much as he does about the track.

Good Luck Rusty. I really do thinkthis is a bad move for you though. Monroe Speedway has a weird way of things. I do consulting for a company in Ohio in the race track construction area. Oct. 2007 we consulted and poured outside retaining walls. Jerry Smith was involved as VP at the time. Stu Bashner was GM. It took 3 months of talks just to do the walls on this 3/8 mile track. Walls where poured in 3 days. During this time Stu quit and comeback twice and was fired and hired back. Jerry was on and off chopping block several times. In June of 2007 Paxton Waters. who designed the place called me and asked me to talk to them and leave SGMP and go there as GM. LOL Maybe I should have went!!! I turned it down. This last Aug, Sept, and Oct Stu was released and Jerry Smith followed with his release. A man named Jeb was hired. He made it 2 to 3 weeks. Fact is this, it is board run with a bunch a guys who like racing but have never been in it. Now they know more then people who have. It is a beautiful track. I heard few weeks back Rusty was going there. If the board leaves him alone and lets him do what he needs to he will make it. I don't see this tho. Hopefully Robert and Rusty left on good terms. Good luck Rusty. Get used to hearing the saying, "we don't do it like that in La.", or "this is how we do it down here."
Maybe I should talked to Robert about Orlando job. LOL

Rusty, I have a friend that lives in La. and he agrees with mizechris. That track is apparently on shaky ground. I know if anyone can turn it around it would be you, but why? You've already started turning SpeedWorld around, but it still needs someone like you to complete the job. Just go into the new job with your eyes wide open. Some things aren't as they're portrayed. Good luck. billy
