  • Interesting Fact from Southern Slam

The top 9 finishers from the Southern Slam 250 were from 9 different states. I don't recall ever going that far back in the results in a short track raee before finding a duplicate home state.

    1 12 Justin Drawdy Florida

    2 112 Augie Grill Alabama

    3 10 Jack Landis Ohio

4 51 Alex Haase North Carolina

    5 14 Ben Rowe Maine

    6 91 Heath Hindman Tennessee

7 16n Johnny Van Doorn Michigan

    8 92 Jason Hogan Georgia

    9 72 Scott Hantz Indiana

I'd be interested to hear of any other recent races that had a more geographically diverse top 10. (come on you stat buffs!- I'd guess maybe a derby in there somewhere...)

R.J. - I had just responded on another post, that it was impressive to me that the top 5 were from different states. It is a LOT more impressive (and supports my thoughts on the other post) that it's actually the top 9 cars! My only guesses right now would be that either a Snowball Derby or an All-American 400 could possibly match that stat (Asphalt LM's only... Sprints and DLM's not included)

By the way, great to meet you Sunday, and I'm sure you will be seeing us (and a few carloads more) again in the near future. That was a show WELL worth a road trip for. I'd go triple the distance next time!

Damn right it was! At least 12-15 cars had a shot at the win, while NSS it was 3 (with 2 of them starting & finishing in the top 2 spots).

Although Drawdy, Landis and Grill also started in the top 3, by no means was it easy to finish there. Drawdy spun very early in the race, and spent the next 150 laps getting himself back up front. Grill took 2nd with only a lap or 2 to go. Landis tried inside & outside of Drawdy every lap for about 75 laps or so, before finally getting passed by Grill very late.

Ben Rowe must have pitted 5-6 times, yet still got a top 5

As my buddy Palmbayer said on the way out of the track "If you didn't like that race, you ain't a race fan to begin with!"

If/when they have the 2nd annual, the true race fans of Central and North Florida would be fools not to include this event in your 2009 schedule... it was THAT good!

Gov. Cup was a snore fest compared to Southern Slam.
