  • **CCMP Trucks** 11/22/08

    I missed the event,

Can someone tell what happened and what they saw with the #10 (George Gorham Jr.) and #36 (Ross Chastain) trucks wrecking.

    Thanks.....Bob

After a late restart, the 10 truck slipped a little going into one-two, and opened a hole at the bottom.

Chastain put it cleanly into the hole, coming off of turn two, below the 10 truck.

The 10 truck tried to squeeze him down coming off turn two, and the two trucks got locked up, shooting both to the right, into the wall. It was an ugly wreck, with a few others piling in.

IMHO, there was plenty of track there for both to race, but it was late in the race, and it looked like the 10 was maybe trying to do whatever he could to break Chastain's momentum when he got under him.

I didn't see that Chastain did anything wrong, at all. He had been working over the 10's rear bumper pretty good for the ten laps before that, but never punted him out of the way, so maybe the 10 was a little irritated with some of the previous contact, thinking it had been excessive or something. Up until that point, it just looked like good hard truck racing.

The finish was awesome.... The 6 truck came across the start-finish line side-by-side with the winner... it was close!

pretty much agreed. if #10 hadn't swerved down, none of that would have happened. #36 was almost dead even with him when they made contact.

how old is the driver of the #6? he gave the race away twice in the last two laps.

Hmm... From where I was sitting the #10 was all the way up in the third grove, leaving plenty of room for the other truck when the #36 got down in the dirt on the bottom of the track. It looked like the driver of the 36 overcorrected and wound up sending the 10 truck into the wall. After the initial crash was over the driver of the 10 was about to get climb out of the truck and the #4 hit him in the side. I'm just glad all involved are okay. Seems to me that if the 36 wouldn't have tried to pass in the dirt none of it would've happened

              I beg to differ

I don't know where you were sitting but from where I am sitting, in my studio Looking at the video several times and running it thru frame by frame, I don't see where the #36 was ever in the dirt. What I do see is the #10 checking up in turn 2 and getting a little loose. He went up the track a little and the #36 filled the hole. It looks like they locked up when the 36 got up beside the 10 and they both went up to the wall. I'd say it was mostly a racing incident. Thats my take. Bob.....

Flvideo, my view was a little different. However, I do agree that it was just a racing incident. There didn't seem to be malicious activity on either part.

they hit the wall about 50 feet past me.

if #36 was in the dirt, it was well back towards turn 1, before the incident. and from the backstretch wall it certainly looked like #10 tried to move his line lower on the corner exit.

while that's mostly what i would call it, i'm not sure a single one of the drivers involved felt that way. especially the punchee and the puncher.

of course, they may feel a bit different now that they've had a chance to cool down....
