After a few years of not doing this, BEST OF THE BEST returns this year at KARNAC.com. You will have to December 31 (I think) to nominate who you think is the BEST OF THE BEST.

It can be a dirt or asphalt track and all votes will be counted and the top five of each catagory will run for the BEST OF THE BEST. Okay i vote for that one......FAST MINI CUP TOURING SERIES

BEST DRIVER -- Johnny Collins, easily the most dominant dirt track driver this year. All he did was win the biggest races all year.

BEST CONCESSION AT A TRACK -- Volusia, great variety.

BEST PHOTOGRAPHER -- Chris Hackney, shot the Powell Memorial and sprint cars for the Star-Banner at Ocala Speedway. Got front page billing, and that's not easy to do for short track racing in Marion County.

BEST PROMOTER -- Mike Peters. His dream has come to life and exceeded everyone's expectations. Ocala Speedway has to be central Florida's racing destination.

BEST TRACK ANNOUNCER -- BJ Calvin, but I haven't made my debut yet.

BEST WRITER FOR SHORT TRACK RACING -- Joe VanHoose. He's witty, well-published, and downright iconic. He could be president one day.

BEST TOURING SERIES -- Got to be the UDLMS. Made me a short track believer again. Every race has a big feel to it. Keep it up.

BEST DRIVER (Can be from any division)... Although Johnnie Collins won most of the big races, Shan Smith got my respect for traveling to nearly every dirt track in the region, and winning at almost all of them.

BEST ROOKIE OF THE YEAR (Can be from any division)... I guess I wasn't paying much attention this year. I can't think of any Rookie who stood out this year. I'm sure there are some good candidates, but I have no nomination for this category.

MOST IMPROVED DRIVER (Can be from any division)... Tyler Ivey has caught on to the Dirt Late Models pretty quickly, and is now a legitimate threat to win every time he unloads. Same goes for Adam Bedenbaugh

BEST CONCESSION AT A TRACK... does any track have the variety that East Bay does? Not only concession stands, but a full-blown sit-down restaurant that stays open for a few hours after the racing action is over.

BEST PHOTOGRAPHER OR VIDEO PHOTOGRAPHER... I don't think anyone works harder, or travels more than Bob Culbertson

BEST PROMOTER... can their be any doubt that it's Ken Kinney? Not only does he bring a large field of cars to every track they visit, but look how many SPONSORS he lined up through the year.

BEST TRACK ANNOUNCER... always liked Joe Linebarier anyways, but he convinced me at East Bay last week. For a guy that had NEVER seen racing action at that track, he never missed a beat and sounded like he'd been there for years. Just watch out when "Jordy Nipper" is in town though... he had just a little trouble announcing that one, along with "Chuck Chitty"! Gotta give a call to Dave Westerman too though. His knowledge of racing history, and the way he informs the present day crowd about long-ago events make him another Pro that I'm glad is still around.

BEST WRITER FOR SHORT TRACK RACING... BJ Cavin always seems to do a great job with Ocala Speedway, while Joe Van Hoose has done a great job getting short-track racing into a daily newspaper in a fairly large city. Not an easy thing to accomplish in ANY city in the US.

BEST TOURING SERIES... again, hands down the UDLMCS. With a high of 63 cars at the Volusia event, that figure is among the best of any type car, in any region and any state, and any sanctioning group. There IS no second place in this category... every other series in the state floundered this year. Some closed down, others split, and most just plain sucked!
