  • North vs. South this Saturday Night at New Smyrna Speedway in Super Stocks

Orlando, FL (November 11, 2008) The South is going to rise this Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway when the Manheim Auto Auctions Super Stock 50 takes to the speedway for 50 laps. The North vs the South Super Stocks will showcase the "best of the best" from New Smyrna Speedway (The North) and Orlando SpeedWorld (The South).

"With points ending Friday night at Orlando SpeedWorld, this lets the gates open for our Super Stocks to go to New Smyrna Speedway and show them just how it is done Southern Style," said Orlando SpeedWorld General Manager Rusty Marcus. "I am hoping that a good number of our guys will make the trip to New Smyrna Saturday night and show just how we do it at Orlando SpeedWorld."

"With the economy this year, very few of our guys and New Smyrna's guys have been able to go to each other tracks but points are over Friday night and this is a great opportunity to get all the Super Stocks together for one BIG 50 LAP race. The North vs. the South and hopefully the South will rise this Saturday night."

Hopefully all the fans will see not only a great Super Late Model race for 75 laps but one of the BEST Super Stocks race of the year. The ball is now in the court of the Orlando drivers to see just how many can or will try their luck at New Smyrna Speedway.

"I know the guys will make me proud," said Marcus. "New Smyrna has some great Super Stock drivers but so do we at Orlando. I just want the fans to get the best race possible and see just how great these guys are at racing. And maybe, just maybe, the South will rise for us."

Racing starts at 7:30 pm on Saturday, November 15 at New Smyrna Speedway. Along with the Manheim Auto Auctions Super Stock 50 will be the Marion Edwards Memorial/Nortiz/Tempaco/Bright House Challenge SLM 75, Pro Trucks, Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsman, Mini Stock and Strictly Stock.

There will be an open practice on Thursday, November 13, from 6 to 10 pm. Pit gate will open at 5 pm with practice starting at 6 pm. Cost is $20.00 per car plus 3, $5.00 each additional person.

General admission is $20.00, $15.00 students and seniors (62 and older), children 11 and under FREE on Saturday, November 15.

What happened to "all specials, other than Governor's Cup will be $15.00"

So much for lowering admission prices...

C'mon and be realistic... this is NOT a $20.00 value. Hopefully this is a typo.

No Jerry, it is correct. I was asked this morning to change it on my press releases.

"Effective immediate, the back gate will be lowered to $20.00 non FASCAR and $15.00 FASCAR. General admission will be lowered to $10.00, $15.00 for FASCAR Tours, and $20.00 for the Clyde Hart Memorial, Governor's Cup, and Crash-A-Rama at Orlando SpeedWorld. Pit entrance for the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing in Feburary will be $30.00."

Yes, the North won but the South did try. But it was cool having 26 cars there trying. I thought it was a great idea when Bobby Holley and Bobby Riley, both Super Stock Champions this year, went to the back for the start for the $100.00 bonus. Neither did win but if they had, they would have gotten an extra $100.00 for coming from the rear to the front. Nice try by both guys and a good race by all the guys. Too bad you can't always have 26 cars for a Super Stock race but it was surely fun Saturday night. And thanks to the Orlando guys who did make the trip from Orlando, Merritt Island, and Palm Bay. That is a hall for them but they came anyway and made it great.

And Jerry, I do not do anything other than post the price I am told. Yes, the front gate and back gate was changed for Saturday. Also the backgate this Saturday will be $25.00 non fascar, $20.00 fascar. I am just the poster and was asked to change my release and did. So don't kill the poster!!!!!!!

Didn't mean to imply that you had anything to do with it Jane. I just recall the announcement saying that prices would be reduced. Apparently the policy was changed.

I just don't understand why NSS needs to charge $20 for a show like that, when East Bay gets $12.00 for bigger shows than this one. Last week brought 46 Late Models and this week had 33 Sprint cars.

This weekend though, IS worth the $20 admission for 200 laps of SLM, and a 3-segment, 75 lappper for the Southern Sportsman class. People need to get their value for the money spent... last week wasn't, while this week will be!

i don't know about "bigger", Jer.

we didn't get out of NSS until ... 2am? something silly.

2 late model races, mods, and big fields in the Super and Strictly stocks.

and they inverted 21 in the Super Stock race. we actually had something to watch for the first 30 laps.

Kudos to the track for adding a "21" invert pill! It was a heck of a race while until things sorted out; like going back in time to the good old days of big fields and handicapped starts.

Those "northern" Super Stocks got darn lucky that fast-timer John Hodge had a transmission leak, and that something de-railed Bobby Riley.

There is on-going intrigue in the Strictly Stock race and championship. Is that settled yet?

                      Rematch!

I would like to say "lets have a rematch" seems that every OSW car broke for some reason or another the 89,99,00,52,7 all had problems before half way, the 77 had the better night out of TEAM ORLANDO, so I think that TEAM NEW SMYRNA got off easy, a rematch should be soon

89 - Hindman zinged the teeth off of his pinion. you just knew that start was too good to be true, didn't you?

52 - Bobby Riley, OSW champion, put a tire down. i bet Cuddy's make arrangements to have some wrenches and tires down in the infield next time.

00 - Hodge set fast time in qualifying but he evidently hasn't got everything sorted out from his last trip into the wall. it seems his trans case was cracked.

anybody know what happened to Wagner? 74 is last years OSW champion.

i dunno. last year the #11 was running OSW. seems to me like we actually won after all.

Hodge's trans case wasn't cracked the front seal was in it was going bad, and of course the stop leak didn't fix it.

As for Lee he blew a tire coming out of 2 and got into Bobby Holley (once again sorry Bobby), then whacked the wall. We couldn't repair it fast enough to get him back out in the race

A rematch sounds pretty good to me. How about December 5th at the Charity Truck race? Super Stocks are racing and that would be a great time to have a rematch and also do something good for a family that really needs help.

If you guys like the idea, let me know and I will let Rick Bristol know that we are doing the rematch that night. It could help bring in more cars for the race and give the fans something really neat that night.

                            Are you up for it???
