  • USAR Procup is it over?

Hooters has dropped sponsorship of it.The final race was at the Rock, won by Rogers. Officials are looking for sponsors and I hope they succeed. Speed51 has this story. It's the same deal as USA Speedway,Mr Brooks heirs didn't want to continue it .

I dont understand why Clayton Rogers doesnt have a steady ride somewhere. This guy can flat out drive a racecar.

I can understand why Hooters bailed, but I dont understand why this series hasnt been promoted better. Speed Channel used to air the races in the evenings a couple of days later. Now I cannot find them on Tv at all.

Hooters paid for the air time so that it would be seen on TV. When they quit paying, SPEED stopped covering.

It really sucks, that short-track racing must pay their own way onto the TV sets around the country.

If I ever win the Lottery a few times, I will start a new network... STTV (Short Track TV). There is so much good racing all over this country, and other than a few hundred (or thousands) that were there in person, nobody will ever get to see it.

Pro cup now aires on the VS channel thats ala carte on most cable and satellite providers. I certainly hope they can find sponsorship and continue operations as they are still one of the only ''feeder'' series in short track racing and not to mention for guys like Gene Crane who have made the series their career.

I was just thinking the other night...... why can't SPEED or ESPN or any network for that matter, bring something back like Thursday night THunder?
THere is a "BIG" race somewhere in this country every week whether it be on dirt or asphalt, sprint cars, late models, figure eights, flat track motorcycles, even Frank Kimmels street stock race comes to mind.
I would love to see the Knoxville nationals, Snowball Derby, Nashville 400, Lil 500 at ORP, Kings Royale, GOvernors cup, and on and on...on an hour long format instead of the drible that is on now. SPEED has gotten so bad that it is unwatchable and most of the time has nothing to do with "speed" or racing.

You're actually describing one of the best television networks the short track fan ever had - The Nashville Network, may it rest in peace.

Funny how a network that wasn't 100% focused on auto racing showed the country's best late model races, yet the so-called auto racing network can't show them. Oh yeah, that's right, they're too busy showing Pinks and some show about tow truck drivers...
www.FloridaSprintCarFans.com - because Florida sprint car racing needs all the help it can get...

Here's why you don't see more short track stuff on TV... If you are not showing the event live, it's still a "live" event to tape... nothing is pre-planned and you must have good personnel who can "anticipate" things happening... A live event requires more people for live switching etc. A taped event requires editors etc. to assemble the final product... This takes money, and lots of it... A show like "Pinks" is all a "set-up"... It can be done with a relatively small crew on location, then the program is edited at the studio... Cost of something like this is roughly 75% less than taping a live event... That's why SPEED runs so much of this stuff - it's cost-effective.
Earlier this year, I worked with TV Showcaster to do some internet-based TV shows from Auburndale and East Bay... It cost us (with just a three man crew and three cameras) $400 to $500 to do each shoot, a bit more for the live internet broadcast... Sponsors never came through to keep it going... The Dirt LM Series still owes Dean money from the second East Bay date...
Everyone loves it, whether it's on TV or the internet, but when it comes down to crunch time the money is not there for a variety of reasons...
One of the main reasons ESPN dropped Thursday Night Thunder was for lack of sponsorship and monies from sanctioning groups like USAC...
