  • Mr. Posey Goes to Washington !!

Our racing politician, Bill Posey of Rockledge, has won a seat on the U.S. House of Representatives. Bill began racing as a young man teaming with another Brevard County driver, Danny Shearer, in their early days racing Fords and Hudsons at Eau Gallie Speedway. Bill became a realtor and eventually ran the Melbourne (Eau Gallie) Speedway for awhile. After the track closed down, Bill began racing LM at Orlando Speedworld and New Smyrna Speedway where he won quite a few features. He continued to race after becoming a Rockledge City Councilman and after he was elected to the Florida House. Bill last raced with the Classic Car Series after being elected to the Florida Senate. He planned to retire after this term but was asked by members of his Party to run for the U.S. House seat being vacated by the popular Dave Weldon. Bill won a huge victory last night on an evening which was not really very good for the Republican Party.

The following appeared on Bill's web site this afternoon:

    Hello,

We did it!! After nine months filled with a lot of hard work, stamped letters, phone calls and sign waving, the voters of District 15 have selected me as their Representative to Congress.

I am truly humbled by the results of this election. I would like to thank my family, my campaign staff, the voters of this district, and, most importantly, our tireless volunteers. This was a tremendous effort that can only be done with the help of others. THANK YOU!

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my opponents – Dr. Stephen Blythe, Trevor Lowing, and Frank Zilaitis. It was a pleasure campaigning with these gentlemen. Their enthusiasm and passion for the issues shaped the political discussion and I enjoyed the very lively campaign. I’ve said this many times, but I feel everyone should run for office at least once in their life. It is an incredible experience, you learn so much, and you are most certainly the better for it.

Today is not the end of the campaign, but the beginning of a new chapter. I now look forward to serving with all the members of Congress – both new and old, Republican and Democrat – just as I did in Tallahassee. I vow to stand on the same principles that have always guided me to best represent the people of District 15 and all Americans.

Once again, my sincerest thank you goes out to all of our supporters.

    Thank you and God Bless,

    Bill
